    Default Kicking myself

Sorry no hand history for this one.
I was kicking myself for this play a bit. I cant decide if i got pwned badly or if i made the right play.
    So here goes..
blinds are 250/500. My stack is just short of 20K/opp is same.
Its folded all the way round to the opp who is one prior to button. He mini raises to 1000. I look down in sb to see 9s and call and bb does too.
Ok read on opp is simple. hes a good player, solid preflop decisions and postflop aggressive. He isnt afraid to fold or to bully. I watched him for 30 mins or so make good solid poker plays, so this mini raise has every alarm in my head ringing. He has something good (and at this moment i put him on nothing less than rockets) The mini raise was sooo out of character i knew he had something good. But my nines are worth the call i could hit something big.
    Flop comes K9rag rainbow.
Bang trips! (again, id just taken out rockets with a set.) I check it, bb checks it (bb has 4000chips i think) Opp makes 1/3 pot bet (i guess here hes trying to look weak and get action or reraise) i promptly miniraise his bet (hopefully i'll give the impression i have something goot!) bb folds.
Opp thinks for a long time then pushes all in. I insta-call and he turns over pocket kings for set over set.
    Aw shit.
I guess i wasnt getting away from this but was my read on the situation right?
Imo, mini raising KK in his position is dangerous as the ace can appear and hes screwed therefore this play was ballsy but i still admire it. I didnt think he would take the risk with KK, but he definatly could with AA. Was i wrong or did i just get pwned? The play seemed so obvious i kicked myself for not giving him credit for doing it with KK and therefore seeing set over set.

    1. You're supposed to go broke there...you just are, Miffed.

    2. Ehh...a lot of players will switch it up. He plays AK the same way there, maybe QQ, don't know what his standards of min raising are. If he's really good, i'm sure he switches it up...

    Love me for a season
Nothing wrong with that, just be happy to go out like that rather than through a bad decision.

When someone min-raises preflop you should definetly be looking out for AA or KK. Since you can assume he has a good hand, I think you should raise the flop about 1/2 pot looking for a reraise which AA would gladly give you. Then simply check turn if there were any callers and they'll be happy to take a stab at your weakness. Sucks that he had KK though, gg nh.
