Default Played it terrible, looking for advice for next time

First, just want to thank everyone for what good advice I have received so far from this forum in general.

Final 3 of a 20 person $30 live tourney. Chip stacks are close, I have ~14500, Chip leader has ~15500. I am in SB, blinds are 1000/2000. I have QJos. Button (leader) calls, I call, BB checks.

    Flop (Qs, 4s, 2h)
As the title says, I played this terribly, I realize that.

I am first to act, pot is 6k, I bet out 10k. BB folds, Button raises me AI, I call, he has AA, I don't improve.

OK, here are the mistakes I realize. Please correct me if I mizanalyze my play. First, betting at all. Second, betting that big. I should have bet 4-5k max so that he would be able to raise me and I could still fold. I should have also paid more attention to a somewhat tight player limping in UTG 3 handed.

Once again, I will say that I know this was a terrible, amuteurish play that was totally wrong.

Did I miss anything? I had just doubled up my short stack, and just got WAAAAYY too aggressive without looking what was going on around me.

I don't think that you played that all that badly. Unless you had a solid read on the pocket aces guy, you wouldn't be able to put him on AA. You overbet the pot however

With stacks that shallow, I don't think you can get away on the flop. Betting out 10k is a bit much, maybe tone it down to 6k... but I still think you are destined to lose all your chips here.

Raise to 3x preflop, AA will likely reraie all-in and you can get away. You just cant call AI with QJ, then you probably can still hold on for a 2nd place.

Appreciate the advice from everyone. I was thinking of raising it PF, but just decided to call because of after flop postion if I missed the flop. Is this backward thinking?
