1. Try not to raise to steal against really loose opponents unless your cards can back you up if he decides to play back. Steal from tighties, play loose guys with hands. I never limp when the blinds get high, unless i have a monster and think someone will raise behind me, or i'm in the SB and theres already been a limper and i know the BB is tight pre flop so i'm getting a good price if i'm confident he'll check. At this point in tournies people are looking for good opportunities to push and steal, so i'm always careful not to put money out there by limping in thats vulnerable to an over the top raise. I don't want to fold 1BB after limping when my stack is only 12BB.
2. The obvious answer to this one is basically any hands that are likely to be ahead of the hands your opponents are holding. I raise for value 4-handed with any hands that have two cards higher than T offsuit...QJ, KJ, AJ, AQ, AK, and all the same hands with the T's thrown in if it's suited, KTs, ATs, QTs, JTs, and any pairs higher than 77 in position, higher than 99 out of position. These are all hands that are easier to play post flop short handed, because if you catch a piece of the flop its usually going to be the best hand.
3. If you raise KJs from the SB and the flop comes down QJx, you will leak chips if you are check/folding because of the Q. Mid pair is pretty strong heads up, epecially if you raised pre flop and your M was 10, you're almost pot commited at this point anyway. I might just push this OOP and pray he doesn't have a queen, your stack isn't really deep enough to bet for info and then fold if he comes over the top. This is read dependent of course, if i know my opponent will fold any non-Q hand to any significant bet, i might just bet half the pot.
