    Default Questions to MTT-players

I've understood that some players pretty much only play MTTs and make good money out of that. How many MTTs would you be playing say a normal day then, and would you load up 4-5 at the same time from several different poker-sites? I think MTTs are a lot of fun, but there only seems to be one or maybe two every day that I can join with the BR I have on PokerStars.

I'm also wondering how often it's normal for good MTT players to get to the final table, to get itm, to be knocked out on the bubble and to be knocked out before first break. I tend to be about average stack at first break, but after that I usually need to make some pretty big risks to grow fast enough. I find it hard to evaluate my MTT-play, as it tends to be a lot of coin-flips where it depends on luck.

I think if you are relying on a lot of coin-flips, you need a to take a good look at your strategy. I won my last tournament with just one coin-flip before the final table.

You should read the guides on this site. Personally I've seen a dramatic increase in my ability in MTT's due to these guides and mixing them up with my own style of play.

i think itm to shoot for is around 20% and roi of about 100%. with softer fields your roi should probably be higher.

as far as having to win coinflips, this is not really true. yea, you have to win them when it counts, but it makes it alot easier if you have lots of chips where you can survive without having to win coinflips. find ways to pickup chips (particularly in blind wars) and it gets easier to go deep.

QQ vs JJ may not be a coin flip, but your opp would have played it the same if he'd had AK.

Our job is to get and maintain a decent stack, and wait for those magic, every once in a while tourneys where the flips go your way, or everyone shows underpairs instead of overs, or every draw hits. You'll do that more often, as Gabe said, the more you learn to see spots where you can pick up chips without having to show down. But still, you need to hit a card run to win.

If you want more, cheaper MTTs than PS I'd suggest UB - they have FOs every hour, most under 50 buyin. I haven't played at bodog but I scouted them and they looked to have decent lower buyins going pretty often as well.

My ROI was up around 200% after my last big cash, been drifting back to 100 since then. I'd focus more on ROI than ITM.

Most of the MTTs I have played have been on pokerstars, maybe I will take a look at those other sites then. Got itm in one today without too many coinflips, but was knocked out pretty quickly after that. I have taken a look at all the guides, they have been of much help. Is MTTs at pokerstars harder than other places by the way? I have heard there are less fish there and ring games seems to be harder. I play NL from 5$-20$ buyins. And another thing, do you usually play several MTTs at once?

plenty of fish in the PS < 20 FOs.

    I'm a single table guy.

Im not sure on my mtt figures (roi etc) and i cant be bothered to look them up right now although they are just below what gabe has suggested i think.
With mtts i usually sign up for 2 or 3 and have one possibly two running in the background while i play in a cash game (this is only in the early stages when i have a decent stack) once i begin to get to 15bbs where its recommended i get active i quit the cash tables and anything else i might be playing that i can leave and concentrate on the mtt play (usually ill have one table up where blinds are 250/500 ish and another where they are 100/200 or something similar) I rarely play any more than two at once simply because my stats show a distinct loss of profit when i play 3 or more at once (oddly enough my cash game stats are exellent when i have mtts running in the background/at the same time)
