Hello the board - Recent SNG Endgame

Hello!

I'm brand new to FTR, so please forgive me for any posting faux pas, and correct me gently. Also, I'm unfamiliar with this style of forum. Please feel free to straighten me out.

I've been playing poker seriously since May 2005 (I know, not long).

I have accounts at Paradise and Party, but I primarily play at Stars.

My favorite tools/resources are:
PokerTracker
PAHud
Harrington on Hold Em.

This is the final table of a 45 player SNG I played last night. As we got down to the final table, I went from medium/short stack, to big, and back down again. I know some of the things I did poorly, but would really like some outside opinions.

Actually, this is the danger of doing too many things at once.
I do not generally open for 3 x BB. I generally open for 2 x pot. Because I feel this is a good raise that indicates my intention to play the hand, and it completely disguises the strength of my hand while simultaneously adjusting for the number of players already in the pot and their limps or raises.
Having just had the conversation the day prior with my other board, I am attempting to raise 3 x BB instead sometimes. At a glance, I assumed that this is what I did there.
On review - the pot was approx t1500 and I raised to t3000. Again, I gave away nothing about my hand except my intention to play it, and my raise was my standard raise.
I do nothing simply because others tell me to, unless it makes sense to me. Evidently this is another example of doing what I feel is correct, regardless of recent advice to the contrary. I had played a tourney against the members of my board earlier that evening and used their 3xBB strategy against them. And played my usual way later. Interesting, that.

Why would you want to flip a coin? If you did want to flip, is calling or re-raising a better play?

Perhaps a coin-flip isn't a great idea. I'll consider that.
Re-raising wasn't necessary. I already indicated that no one else was likely to play, and the original raiser was already all-in. If someone behind me had reraised I would have been happy to bail. But with my chip lead I felt that I could safely call here and attempt to eliminate a player HU without volunteering more of my stack.
