Default Just jumped in the deep? end

    Hi all,

Have been lurking for a few weeks - great site btw.

Been playing $1.00 + $0.10 for a while now doing pretty good (i think)
    Played 234 games, 44% ITM 32% ROI.

Watched Dwarfman's videos during the week - picked up a lot of tips.

Learning lots on this forum, and thought i would jump up a level (not a rich bloke by any stretch of the immagination). So just played my 1st $5.00 + $0.50 Sit-n-Go.

    Placed 2nd!!

Went out with PFR all-in on AA, called by 66 (which hit) but i'm happy.

Not sure if I should stay at $5 or (as someone suggested on this site) play a $5 after each 1st at $1.00.

Also, I have what may be a dumb question... I understand the value of position, but have noticed also that often 1st to act takes the pot with a raise.

So, is it not true that there is a lot of power from early position as well?

I understand it is far more risky.

    Andy

Your 1$ SnG stats are really good. You should have no problem playing 5$'s profitably. Just have around 100$~ for your bank roll and you should be all set.

You sound like you are able to compete at $5's. Just make sure you have enough BR so that a downswing of losing a couple SnG's isn't going to be a significant hit.

Yeah well if your opponent has nothing and you bet out 1st you can win, but the reason position is better is that you have a better idea what your Op has if you act after him.
    pulling a courtiebee pŏŏl-ĭng ā kôrt-ē-bē (verb phrase):
    1. overvaluing mid pocket pairs
    2. knowing you should fold, but donkishly calling or raising anyway

Being out of position is a pretty big advantage in hands where you are short stacked, and need to win this pot to stay alive. Say you raise pre flop, get called by someone with position on you, and you're basically pot commited...You need to win this pot or you're crippled. You can try and push any flop and improve your chances of taking down the pot if your opponent missed and will fold.

    Nice numbers.

While it is true that often the early position bettor can take down the pot, pay attention to your opponent's habits. If they continually do this and you have position on them you can always try to:

    1) reraise their raise (if you do it, do it strong - no wussy minraises)
    2) call their flop bet. If they check the turn, you may be able to take down the pot by betting, again strong.

I do NOT advise doing this regularly, but you can use it to limit reckless aggression. And this is an example of how useful position is.

Gday mate, (Well someone had to say it)

If you're bankrolled then move up, your stats are solid.

With regards to the position question, if I'm first to act on the flop and I think there is a fairly good chance that the flop missed the other players then I'll have a bet. It depends on the flop, the number of other players in the hand and my feelings on them i.e I wont bet into a calling station or at a As Ks Jh flop but a rainbow flop with one high card and a max of 3 players to the flop (including me) is usually taken by he who bets first. Paired flops are also ripe for a streal.

    Yay! Glad I could help!

Your $1 SnG stats are fantastic, and if your bankroll is $100 or above, I see no reason why you shouldn't go ahead and play the $5 SnGs exclusively.

    Default Thank you

    Hi all (G'day),

    Thanks for all your encouragement.

My $1 sng's (and some other wins) have taken my initial $80 BR to $220, so I guess I shall continue at the $5 level as well as the $1 for a while, and if all goes well i'll drop the $1 completely.

Flop Turn River is an invaluable resourse for someone starting out like myself.

    Thanks again
