Default AK, $10 stars - at what point did I screw up in this hand?

Should I have reraised the flop to gain information and maybe get a steal to fold? Should I've know I was beat when he rereraised me on the turn? (I had a hard time guessing what hand he had though, only hand I thought possible was 99)?

I smell pocket 9s... I think I definitely reraise that flop up to ~400. That's gonna fish out any pure bluff, and maybe the draws. I don't know if you can get away after the turn.

I can find a fold when BB reraises you on the turn most of the time.

I agree. If a high broadway hits the board, and your opponent totally disregards your representation of it, then it's time to re-evaluate. It's called a trap. most of the time someone acts more aggressive when you hit YOUR card, it's time to get extremely cautious.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Yeah, I usually make it 300 to go on the flop and see how he reacts. A re-raise and I'm probably done. If he calls then I proceed with the hand cautiously, taking as many free cards as possible and probably not betting much more (but calling any reasonable bet on the river, if I hit a king or ace).

One thing to remember here is that it's short-handed play and the BB is the big stack by far. His standards have loosened up and he's hunting for opportunities to bust any of the rest of you, if he can play for cheap - and 200 chips when he has over 5K definitely qualifies. I can easily see him having 99, A9, or A5 here given the turn action. He might even have worse than that - 56 suited, K5 suited, something like that. You didn't mention any read on the other player, but lots of big stacks loosen up when facing a small raise from a much smaller stack pre-flop.

yeah a real bet on the flop and I would think 77ish, the turn action after min bet spooks me.
