Which tourny should I buy in for?

Default Which tourny should I buy in for?

Today on Poker Stars they have a 3 +.30 unlimited rebuy tourny coming up, and they also have a 30 + 3 deep stack tournament going around the same time.

I don't want to play both because I like to devote myself completely to one tournament at a time. I think I can say I have finally developed my style for MTT's. The other day I played in one with 1060 people and I made it to the final table, then 2 days ago I played in one with 1024 and took 38th place which isn't bad. Neither of these did I catch a good run of cards, it was solid play from start to end.

I think I've developed my pace for these huge MTT's and know what to do at certain stages of the tournament.

Anyhow, I usually play freezeout tournaments, because I know people get crazy in the rebuy's but with this 3.30 one it's only for 3 bucks per rebuy and 1 add on cost only 3. So I was thinking I could go into this tournament with the fact that a lot of people are going to be looking to double up off the donkey's who go all in with marginal hands just to see if they can get lucky because they know others are doing the same.

And I figure I could captialize off these people to build my stack then cap it with the add on at the first break, and be in a solid position to go all the way. I also would allot myself a certain amount I plan on spending for the rebuy tournament , like only 24 bucks, 3 for the buy in roughly and about 6 rebuys or 7 depending if I need, or 5 rebuys and 1 add on.

So that's that, but then I got to thinking I love tournaments like the deep stack tournament where the blinds are 30 mins and you start with 5,000 in chips, it gives you time to make the right moves, you don't feel as pressured, and that kind of tournament requires people with skill vs luck factor found in other tournament structures.

The max entrants for that one is 1100 so the total prize pool there is 33k, however with the rebuy it's 10,000 guranteed plus whatever money comes from the rebuy time frame, it can add up to a lot of money in the prize pool.

Sorry to get so long winded, I just want opinions and feedback, maybe someone can bring to light something I haven't thought about.

    Thanks,

    shysti

Deep stack tourny for sure. I've wanted to play one since I heard about them, but I haven't had a weekend with enough time to play one through if I actually made it deep. Like tonight I would play, but I'm already going to a $50 single table home game tournament with some friends a few hours after the deep stack tourny starts.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Yep that's the one I chose, wish me luck 1st place is 8250!

Im at tournament #13543649 on stars.

Deep stack! That is the fucking best tournament ever. It closest resembles the WSOP style. Play it alot if you can!

We're at the first break, I am only up 255, I am playing kinda tight.
Played a few ok hands, hit a nice nut boat on the flop with queen 10, the guy kept betting into me, and i reraised him, he calls, but for some unknown God forsaken reason i checked on the river, there was a flush out there so I figured he was betting with that, I thought he would surely bet if I checked the river, but he just checked. Oh well.

I am not getting impatient but the stacks around me are growing and I am not, I dunno if I should loosen up, even though the table has been 50/50 kinda conservative and kinda loose. I am just getting a good feel for the players right now, and noting everything they do.

I'll update the next hour. We're on break. 855 people left. started with 1100

    Tough decision

I would say nh and fold

In my opinion he's not pushing with anything less than a boat: 55 or AJ.

Either close your eyes and call or fold . I would do the latter.

I agree haha! I asked people at the table what they would of done, and they said fold. i was like but that would of left me with only 7k, and this guy was like 7k is the ave chip stack.

I replied I don't want avg, I am trying to WIN this thing, you can't win with avg.

    What would you do hands:
1st hand: call. I can see a flush or even some two pair hands thinking they can play this and win/get people to fold
2nd hand: Fold preflop. I give up trying to take it down after the flop call
3rd hand: Call. This might be a mistake, because I could see you being in a coinflip pretty easily, but I think they may also make this play with many hands that you dominate.

What is a deep stack tournament? Starting with more chips? How much?
  23. #23
You start with 5k in chips, and the blinds start wayy low at 10/20 and they increase at 30 min intervals instead of 15. Great structure, but long as hell.
  24. #24
The tourney takes like 8-12 hours to finish on average. It's FUN and gives you alot of experience.
