    Default Hand vs Xianti

$1 and $2 blinds, 6 handed home game.

    $40 buy-in. I have ~$85

Xianti has me covered, but it's close.

    I'm in the SB with A 2

Random limper, I complete and Xianti checks.

3 to the frop, $6 in the pot.
    A J blank

I check, Xianti bets $6, limper folds, I call

    Turn is T

I check, Xianti says "12" with authority and then puts out his chips, I go into the tank and count out $36...

    AQ/A9?

I would not raise with A2 in this spot, unless it was maniac betting into me.

I have a problem making a raise here even with a strong read. This is one shitty board, and I don't feel like trying to build my stack back up again. Those are some shallowass stacks you guys got there so I see your need to be aggressive but I'd go ahead and sit this one out.

I'm assuming your raise is a bluff becaue i don't see a reason to do this if you suspect he is bluffing - unless you suspect a semi-bluff. I don't know but its not worth the trouble finding out imo.

I think Xianti is thinking the same thing about risking his stack. As for holdings, there is a good chance I'm up against another weak Ace, Jx or semi-bluff. He clearly wants me to fold here.

Is check/call a reasonable line on the turn? Should I just check/fold the flop? I had been gearing down with my stack and watched a few pots like this go uncontested.

i would have check folded the flop out of position, maybe a check raise if you dont believe which seems to be the case. Seems like you would be hoping to just split the pot so its not really worth it IMO. If you really think hes got that flush draw or a JK or something and want to gamble then raise it of course. Wat ended up hapening?

Good players will sometimes go over-the-top on the flop with a strong strong draw on the flop, however if flat called will often fire the second barrel when they miss.

Oh, one part of the texture of this hand I left out. This looks to be the last orbit, as we're looking to cash out and play a $20 tourney.

    Nope he folded.

There was much discussion at the table about what I had. "That looks like a 2 pair bet to me" - Ttanaka

I show for shock value. I really should stop doing this...

I'll let Xianti tell you what he had if he wants.

Pfft all these hands Fnord posts is right before leaving the table. Like that one time where he folded to a threebet when he was two bets in which is horrible for you image, but he later said that he was leaving the table so it didn't matter. Now it's this hand... good players HATE losing a whole bunch of money on the last hand so they tend to fold more. It makes no sense, but it's true.

...when they're up for the night. If he was down I would expect him to be more inclined to GAMB00L here. In any case, I was pretty sure I had the best hand and it was only a matter of how to play it. I figured the extra $24 was worth it to get him to laydown another Ace while protecting my hand from a river card.

Lots of people do things that make no sense at the poker table. That's where the money comes from. There is a lot of money in making sense of things that don't make no sense.

i just gave him a stereotypical tight image, i hardly even know Xianti

Mike Caro preaches to let people know that the game is almost over or you're leaving, it often changes how they play, it's crazy really.

ex: In a homegame I called leaving in 3 hands, well on the 3rd hand i flopped the nut straight and cleaned out 2 people ...

When Fnord checked that flop, I took a shot. When he called, I figured him for a flush draw or a weak Ace, so when the turn looked harmless and he checked, I fired again. I definitely did not want him to call.

    I had J8, no spades.

Afterwards, I questioned his over-the-top move with no kicker saying that I was betting strong. His answer: "That's why I figured you didn't want me to call... <chortle> <chortle> <cackle>." Great read on Fnord's part.

Yes. I've read Caro. But that's no different from my mannerisms if I were betting with AK on that board. At least, I don't think so....

Apparently, Fnord finds that he can read me like a book. He's already noted one habit that I've since been more conscious of. (You wanna tell 'em about it? That was a fantastic PF laydown.)

What else have you noticed about me, Fnord? Tell me everything...

Everything at the table is a tell. Betting patterns, amounts, body language, etc. It all feeds into a bunch of weighted probabilities, hand ranges and gerbils on wheels.

    Bring it.

Next time, we should make the buy-in $100 or lower the blinds to .50/$1 with a $60 buy-in.

And I shouldn't drink so much. I got pretty shitfaced.

Sounds much better than playing 1/2 short handed with only a $40 buy-in.

I briefly started to mentioned how sucky the format was and how much money would be flying around, but then shut up and took their money. I don't think anyone else really understood how aggro you needed to play that format until the end.
