    Default Correct Play?

    45 person $1 + .20 at Stars

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t150 (6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

    BB (t1970)
    UTG (t6005)
    MP (t4605)
    CO (t4795)
    Button (t5025)
    Hero (t1625)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 7, 7.
UTG calls t150, 3 folds, Hero raises to t500, 1 fold, UTG calls t350.

    Flop: (t1150) 8, 9, 8 (2 players)
    Hero bets t1125 (All-In), UTG calls t1125.

    Turn: (t3400) J (2 players, 1 all-in)

    River: (t3400) 4 (2 players, 1 all-in)

    Final Pot: t3400

UTG has 9s Ac (two pair, nines and eights).
Hero has 7c 7d (two pair, eights and sevens).
    Outcome: UTG wins t3400.

The flop came rags, I put him on a big ace and pushed hoping to take down the hand right there. I have a feeling someone is a jackass in this hand, but I can't tell if it was him or me.

Actually no real jackass (the A9 UTG limp is weak but not totally jackass). Wasn't a real scary board, so the push to make overcards fold or pay was fine. Unlucky that he had the 9.

My first reaction was that this response was results oriented. But I know u too well for u to make that mistake (that's one of my leaks not yours).

Which is now making this post a little more thought provoking to me. I woulda raised that mofo up too. I think I actually would have just pushed there, as I tend to think I am ahead probably with a head start in a race if he does call, and occassionally dominated but with my stack and the blinds at this table it is probably worth the risk. But I don't mind his raise and push with a decent flop or raise and get out of the way to an ugly flop and then push your next playable hand.

Is your preflop call here due solely to position? Do you play just to hit the set or undercards and otherwise fold?

i think raising allin preflop like sed said his good, but theres no point in raising 1/3 of your stack behind a limper with a mediocre hand like 77.

Agree...push this pre-flop. Get rid of the positional advantage and make him fold marginal hands.
If people weren't involved....I would have mastered poker along time ago! - Play the Game!
