Party BR question

    Default Party BR question

Due to some recent complications, I've had to cash out 2k of my bankroll. This leaves me with 2.6k which I have moved to Party because I believe its structure to be more favorable to my playing style. For most of my recent history I have 4-tabled the 55+5 turbos on stars. Basically, I am wondering whether I have a large enough bankroll to feel comfortable playing the 55's on Party. What I have works out to about 47 buyins, but I'm a believer that swings of that magnitude are possible, and like to have at least 50. I have no inhibitions about moving down to the 33's, except for the fact that at that level you start with 800 chips rather than 1000. This tends to make me want to "risk it" at the 55's for an assumed lower variance due to the larger starting counts. So what do you think? Is it worth playing the 55's slightly underrolled (to my mind) for the extra starting chips? Am I being too conservative with my BR requirements?[/i]

If you feel you're underolled then you will probably be more psychologically effected by swings, which results in worse play.

That being said, I'd feel fine with 47 buyins and you say that you'd feel okay with at least 50, so that's really close. If you're worried about having less than 50, grind away in the $33s until your bankroll is up to where you want it.

Bankroll management is probably the most important concept to learn how to control for all long term poker players. Grasping this concept is as important as learning the game itself, IMO.

The general rules of thumb with regards to bankroll management have to do with, "will you ever contribute again?" If you plan to never contribute to your bankroll again, then you should never play in buyins that represent more than 1/100th of your bankroll. Or, you should have tremendous self control to be able to move down buyins quickly if your bankroll suffers.

Your feelings about chip strucutre, should not outweigh your ability to manage the bankroll. That being said, I can't see why risking 7 buyins is that detrimental. But you're on a very short leash, and we're looking at likely a 50/50 proposition.
