With the blinds this small, it's a mistake to check, unless you're confident you can lay this down postflop (which is pretty tough HU). Raise, any amount is fine.

Better to win a small pot then lose a big one.

A slightly more risky manouver which was used once on me and I have used successfully twice goes like this (it assumes you have been pressuring each others blinds)....

You min raise (risky, but its heads up anyway what more do you want if you are doing this you are prepared to gamble a bit). Also important is you have been playing solid raises on premium hands and the SB knows this.

Villan calls (or even re raises in which case even better just call him), heres where you need your second bit of luck you need him to catch a bit of the flop, preferably top pair with no kicker to speak of).

HOPEFULLY he will be smart and look to check raise you; he checks you bet he re-raises. ALTERNATIVELY he bets and you re-raise.

Assuming the first option you have some options, if hes been playing aggro smooth call him and let him bleed chips over the turn and river before raising at the end. Alternativly a safer option is to come back strong and take a medium pot there.

Most of the time I will let them carry on betting, perhaps taking charge on the turn if it starts to look dangerous, odds are they have nothing better than top pair or worse and if they have more good for them. It is important to note that if the guy in the small blind has been an ultimate rock and you see him sitting at 7 tables you may want to reassess the wisdom of this manouver.

If you are bet at on the flop rather than checked to put out a weak raise and look to induce the bluff.

As I said a bit risky and I'm sure people on here will disapprove but given the right circumstances you can take a lot of chips off someone. As I said I was playing aggro once and lost lots on top pair (Kings I think) and so far I have done serious damage to another player twice. I have yet to be burnt which I accept will happen from time to time but that goes with the territory of AA and KK, I'm happy enough to rebuy

In a case like this (or any good hand on the BB), I'll do a min-raise. It does two things. First, it puts more money in the pot without chasing out the SB. Second, it reminds the SB that completing is not a free ride. I'll often pick up a few folds around I normally wouldn't if I do this a couple times.

Another case where you should do this is against a single limper on the BB with a good hand. I massages the pot, and puts you in a perfect position to continuation bet if you miss the flop.

Everyone folding and the SB hasn't even got the common courtesy to try a steal? He's going to have to learn that's just not going to ride, I'd raise that with pretty much any two cards. If he calls then play the flop appropriately, if he folds then you haven't lost anything but the chance of a bad beat.

Depending on the texture of the table I might even considering flashing the aces if he folds, not something I would normally consider but with the blinds creeping up and your stack not the healthiest anything to give your steals a little more respect will come in handy. But then that's a whole other topic.

You have to ask yourself, if he has a semi-trash hand would you be able to get any more out of him if he misses the flop? (which will be more often than not obviously) If you check and an A comes on the flop will he rep it or is it going to scare him off? Is he the bluffing type or does he only play for value? Is he swinging his stack like a club or cuddling it like a teddy bear? Man, I'm all questions tonight...

In my mind this one really boils down to the player not the cards.
