bigbadhoss was a pretty big donk, and his flat call of my raise made me fairly sure he was on mid or low pairs.

Given that read, what do you do here?

well, since he's big stack, it's either push or fold. You have to decide whether you are confident enough in your read that he doesn't have J3, a Q with a better kicker, etc. There's not a whole lot you can beat here other than lower pair or complete bluff.
But you are short-stacked, so given your read, I push.

His call on the flop and bet on the turn says "I think I have the best hand." That would be my read in a vacuum. Since you played the tourney with this guy, both our reads could be right. Go with your read and put him all in. If your reads lead you astray enough times then you will have to work on that part of your game, otherwise here is a good spot to double up or take it down.

I call him down. I want a showdown, but I would be happy with a cheap one. If he pushes me all in on the river, I probably call.

He already called 1 raise, and he so far out stacks you that he can look you up with bottom pair. Especially if you have been a little aggro earlier, hmm?

If you are beating him, then technically calling him gives him a look at the river to pair a kicker (or overcard). Basically, a 3-5 outer, assuming he has a pair < Q or kicker < 8. If you raise the turn, I would guess that he folds overcards, and calls with anything else. Probably calls with AK (!?!?!?), but not sure about a single ace.

HOWEVER, if he's actually ahead (better kicker, two pair), then YOU have a 5 outer. Plus, even if you don't improve on the river, he might check to trap or bet less than your stack and you got your cheap showdown.

Anyway, his flop-turn stop and go clearly indicates that he's calling an all-in no matter what. Unless you are totally committed to putting all your chips in here, I would advocate just calling.
