Re:
Cheers for the replies,
I didnt post this simpy because it was a bad beat.
I'm still learning and reading and wishing to improve all the time.
From results I can see that I am improving .
I'm still playing low stakes NL and freerolls and in these MTT's,
I'm making the money and final tables with ever increasing regularity.
It was a hand that stuck in my mind, simply because it shocked me to lose the hand.
I'm not in the habit of posting or speaking too often about bad beats.
It's unfortunate, they happen and I realise the fact.
I felt it was a bad beat but I posted here to see if I'd made a mistake and could of played the hand better.
From your short postings, I gather that a pre-flop raise is generally felt
to be the correct play here.
I can see that a raise with the AQ is an option.
In this particular hand, maybe quite a big raise would of made the BB fold.
I do get the feeling though, that if I had raised just, say, 2.5x, or 3x
the BB, the player in the BB would of called anyway
- But I suppose this is all besides the point. It was an unusual hand for me and I took a bad beat. Fair enough.
My posting was made in order to get any views on my playing of the AQ in that position,
since I didn't wish to make the same mistake again in the future.
In the past, I have often raised with this hand (sometimes from any position) if there wasnt a raise from anyone else.
Though recently, in general, I've begun to play the hand differently.
I don't normally raise with AQ from an earlier position.
From late I might raise, to steal blinds.
From early position, I might possibly raise a late bet, or flat calls with AQ, if there's no real strength shown.
Whether this is good play, I don't know but this what I might often do.
If anyone has ideas about playing AQo or suited , I'd be glad
to read them, since it's a hand I'm a bit unsure of and wary of.
