I just want to get a general concensus out of curiousity of how many players on here are making money online in poker since they deposited and if so what site and what structure (cash games, tournaments etc?)

My first couple months were rocky but in the past 2 months I've finally established a decent roll and I don't have to constantly be worrying about busting out.

I play a variety of SnGs and MTTs on stars.

I got real lucky in my first MTT and knew all the bankroll management stuff so I used some of my winnings to learn how to play. Since then Ive been improving and winning.

right after my last big MTT cash I had made more there, but with most recent downswing I've made slighty more playing SNGs. But another big cash is on the way.

I've been "green" since probably August 2004. Play ring and SNGs mostly at Empire or Party with some Stars, Pokerroom(ick) and Bet365 mixed in. Doesn't really seem like an MTT question though.

As asked, I am maybe 20-30% in the red for the year (1K BR). I had a really bad run to start the year, then got a job to go with my 1-year-old boy and have not had time to play enough to make all of it back. I also switched from low-limit to primarily SNGs, and the occasional MTT when I have time. I don't even have a reasonable sample size to track ROI (maybe 50 SNGs in the whole YEAR!). I mostly play for fun (but I play to win).

I would say overall I am a break-even SNG player - but that includes the learning curve. I feel that my current game (last couple months) is actually pretty good (150 ROI - with an incredibly small sample size), but I don't play enough to find out.

So everyone should probably just ignore all my advice.

I believe u mean in the black...
I've been doing well, but it seems i was really running hot earlier, since im definetely a better player now, but am just breaking even...
:bankroll highpoints: august 1st: 30k (Basically MTTs)
then it fell to 22k (!!) my first downswing in poker. Note to self: Stay away from 1k 6 max on PP (i lost 6k there).
then last few weeks up to 28k (only 200+10 HU play and 200+15 shorthanded)
then last week down to 25k (mainly 200+10 HU play ack!! lost 8 games in a row before winning a few)
Now I'm moving back to MTTs. For anyone who hasn't done so, I highly recommend trying some decent stakes HU playing (only the highstakes have a good blindstructure on my sites). It does wonders for your reading ability.
PS If someone is a consistent winner vrs good superlag players HU, write me.
PSS I suck at ring games. I'm 7k in the red in nl ring. At all stakes more than 1/2, I get eaten alive it seems.

Thanks for the input guys. The reason I asked is because I used to play live only and in my live play at my friend's very well put together weekly MTT I've made a few thousand there, and at a tournament on a casino cruise boat here in florida I've made thousands from that, taking down a field of about 100 guys and gals.

But I had to use that money for my newborn, but since I've been online I've put money into my stars account here and there, not one big deposit and I have yet to break even online. I play the same as I do live I dunno if that's the problem since I do well in live play, or if it's just some fluctuation where I am just having a bad few months since I've been on stars I dunno. I am trying to pin point my errors.

I am also very interested in how people do overall on-line, but have come to realize that there is no way to figure that out on forums. First of all, hardly anyone is willing to admit they're a loser; and secondly, most people who are smart enough to try to improve their game through forums and posting hands, etc, are also smart enough to be making money.

I tilted again last night but am still in the black... but I have felt for quite a while now that I should be much further in the black than I am.

Im 19 so i cant play in a casino so i only play online.i started playing online for real money about 6 months ago i think. I deposited 50 into pokerstars played the .5 .10 and 5.50 18 player SnG's. I dont play much usually just 1 or 2 SnG's every other day, i slowly got up to 200 then 300 in a couple months or so. Then i cashed out and left 100 and slowly worked back up to 400 then cashed out again. Now i am up to 350 and am still playing 5.50 SnG's just trying to play more at a time more often. I rarely play Ring anymore cause i enjoy tourney structure more.

I have been playing poker for years, but obviously had been lucky in live games cuz I thought I was good. I started out really badly on-line about 2 years ago, kept losing, and had put in around $2500 in $100 to $200 increments over 1.5 years.

Then I found FTR in May when I was down to $50 again. Since then, I have not had to put any more money in, have made 3 $11 MTT final tables for $980, $970, and then another $1370 just the other day, in addition to countless smaller ITM wins. I've pulled out $3K in the last 2 months, and I get my MTT money by playing SnGs so I maintain a $300-$400 bankroll. I still need to improve my SnG performance, but I cannot stress enough how much this site has helped me. Just thought I'd give kudos where they are deserved.

    Thanks a lot, guys.

Yeah I am a member of other forums also, but I find this one to the be the most valueable.

This forum stopped the bleeding for me...I was up when I joined, then went on a severe downslide....now I'm building back, playing on winnings, ever since I quit ring and focussed on MTT and S&G play. I suck at ring...I usually get up substantially playing tight and then lose it all on some dumbass play (either mine or my lucky opponent's)...Still in Romper Room, but getting there...

No - this is why you make money in MTTs over the longrun and others don't.

I totally sympathize with bad beats - every time I get my money in the pot I am dominating, I keep getting sucked out on, when will my luck change mentality. But focusing on these really does not help your game and can definitely hinder it.

Do you see why I say you focus too much on results now? Neither of you played that hand poorly (although I think your preflop raise was too much) - it's poker, it happens. If you can't move on, you won't be a winning player.

Oh, and btw I need to listen to my own advice. You are very much like me - I am not trying to be holier than tho, cuz I continue to make the same mistakes. But neither of us will become long time winners if we continue to foucs on the beats rather than simply focusing on the decisions and moving on...

It is hard to accomplish this when the first thing you do after a bad beat is post it.

It is hard to accomplish this when the first thing you do after a bad beat is post it.

We are a like I had said that before on that note to yourself sticky you posted with all the leaks you needed to plug, but on another note, it's weird I am normally not like this about beats in my live play, and the buy in's for that each week is 75 to 150 bucks, when I lose it doesn't bother me.

The guys I play weekly in tournaments are great players so I guess when I lose to them it's out of respect that I am not mad, I don't know I can't explain it. But online since I've journey to that realm of playing I've gotten so frustrated and I can't figure out why.

I think it may stem from the fact that the buy ins in my live play are a heck of a lot more and I do great in them but online I am doing poorly so I guess it makes me frustrated? I am still trying to figure it out.
