Operation: Solid TAG poker

My biggest leak to plug. Sometimes it costs me entire stack. Impatience. Fancy bluffing with Hammer just to see "WTF you @#$%" from confused player. Raising with rags while knowing SHIT about proper LAG play. Playing marginal hands when cards get cold. Being pissed off after taking just blinds when holding AA. Going Doyle Brunson when holding a flush draw - against suckers for a big bets.

All of this feels good, but it's not what makes money. TAG poker makes money. From now, ZERO too-fancy play. Made hands, value bets, tightass hand selection and milking while having good hand.

Only "trick" I will do are:
- continuation betting ON PROPER FLOP
- free card play with monster draw
- cheap showdown

$1k on $50NL tables must be made, THEN I'll allow myself to "have more fun" . Let's see, how 100% legitimate play will work.

Noticed mistakes:
- Raising AJos UTG and running into slick. Good that his king fell on turn and at least it was easy laydown.
- Paying off s00ted suckers flush chasers too often

Operation is a bit tougher than I assumed.

With a hefty $1500 bankroll I decided to move from $25 to $50. 30 buyins, quadtabling.

TAG poker went bad in few moments.

My good plays:
- Flopping a boat from pocket 7's (full of tens), betting straight up each street and taking entire 120BB stack from some guy who thought he has me trapped (he probably had a AT/KT)
- Every time I flopped trips against a raise, it ended up with destack a raiser. Standard trapping: check/call the flop, CR/R the turn, push the river or reraise all-In the turn if possible.
- Laid down TPTK from AKs against AI raise on river. It could be a "stop'n'go" type of steal. I HATE river raises of my blocking bets!


Bad plays:
- Pushed JJ overpair after being re-re-raised. Of course I was suspecting that set. But I paid for that with my entire stack. Not g00t.
- Pussying out from calling a possible delayed steal attempts too frequently (don't know if it's mistake or not, I'm not too experienced with reading opps)

Psychological weekness:
- Losing patience after getting cold cards, not hitting the flops
- Frustration after taking only blinds with AA/KK, being pushed off the TPTK type hand by ballsy busted draw, seeing boat after boat taking huge pot from lame fish(but it was NOT my boat)

Some leaks to plug:
- Proper selection of raising hands in the relation of flop bets when checked. Selective aggression. Learning how to play JJ/TT with single overcard while being the aggressor. Checkfold is not here a solution, is it?
- Laying down overpairs (I thought I'm capable of doing this, but after my moronic play of JJ I start to doubt it)


Operation is still in progress, but on $25 tables. I withdrew $600 and play with $1000. 40 buyins is pretty big amount, but I still feel a bit scared on $50 tables. Probably, it's too fast for me to stomach either bigger losses AN bigger wins. Emotional handling of results may take a more time.

100 hours on $25 tables must be recorded, it's 45h for now.

Profits are $12/hour quadtabling $25 tables. I don't want to turn into weaktight. $25 but TRUE tight aggressive. THAT is specific of operation.

$25 tables got me bored as hell. Standard routine: get premium, raise, hit good/safe flop, bet flop, bet turn, block the river and drag the pot. Or get baby pocket pair, call standard raise, if set then smoothcall flop, call/raise turn and drag huge pot from unimaginative tightwad with AA.

On $50 tables it seems to be a rockfest, BUT the players are still not paying attention to the board. Just "get AA/KK/AK and bet every street". Pfft. "It's just one pair my friends, and it's not always good enough...".

The $50 players don't make so many preflop mistakes. The biggest common mistake of them is being married to overpair. I don't want to make the same mistake, so I was forced to muck my AA/KK on the flop/turn after I smelled "I cracked you" vibe.

Lost two buyins, my KK and AA versus AK. Bad beat, but good info about table dynamics. They think they are tight but still make loose calls with dominated hands.

Update:

Solid poker made another 1 grand for me. I did it on $25NL tables not $50 because $50 tables are too rocky - I can still make money on them but it's more read dependent and my preference is lower stakes + quadtabling.

Ok, I made 1 bluff against tight nit (decent player who can make laydown). I called his UTG raise in position with 56 s00ted, flop K high without any piece for me. He bets 1/3 of pot, I thought it's too meek for TPTK, so my guess is pocket pair QQ or lower. I raised it full pot, he thought a bit and called. Turn was another king, so I sticked to my original flop repping - he checks and I bet 1/2 pot on turn in order to make it look like "I want to milk you a bit with my trips". He thinks for a while and finally mucks. He said on chat he mucked QQ, but I cant be sure of it.

But main source of profit is just it - solid, straightforward poker.

Lessons learned:
- I learned a discipline to lay down overpair. Yeah, it CAN be bluff or overplayed TPTK but statistically my one pair is beat more often than not and saving a stack 3 times is worth even at the expense of folding a winner once.

Pot Control: Check/call, or check behind with made hand. Like Fnord said "time to rediscover call button"

I noticed, it's extremely hard to play big pots OOP with unimproved pocket pair. On drawless boards bet flop, check/call turn and bet the river move with overpair is quite useful - people pay me off with even a small piece of board and I am more assured of beaing beat if someone pops me on the river after I rep the backdoor flush or other weird river card. It's saves stack when facing a monster while still getting value from lesser holdings. Opinions?

I took the lion's share of my profit from poker account in order to pay for some stuff and now I'm with about $400 and I rebuild on $20NL tables while having safe financial situation (FINALLY lol)...

Operation in progress, with the intention of applying some more agression when I put someone on weaker calling hand.

Cool, I moved to 50NL Vrax and your right about it being rockier then the 25NL tables. Its not so bad though, I'm running about 12ptBB/100 at 50NL compared to >20ptBB/100 at 25NL. And I learn faster up here too because I get burned sometimes. You should move up when your rolled again. Its nasty having to play the same tables as AOK though!!
