Stealing Defense?

I have a general question. How do you defend a reraise on your steal? I feel I struggle with steal and blind defense. During a SnG today, it was down to 6ppl, and I made an attempt at a steal. I made my normal raise, and one particular player reraised me. I paused for a while and folded. He then reraised every raise I made. I couldn't tell when he was restealing or simply had a better hand than me. The times I did call he had the goods. AK to my KQ, the hand I got knocked out on he had AA to my QQ, the Board went AQAQ4. I had never lost quads to quads before. In all there were maybe 6 to 7 hands he came over the top on me. How can I keep myself from seeming so passive on my steals, so that a particular player doesn't keep shoving me around?

You might be able to get a better idea of the strength of his hand based on the positions you and him are raising from. Lets say you raise from early position and he reraises you from mid position. His hand is most likely legitamate since raises from early position are generally taken pretty seriously. If its folded to you on the button and you raise and he reraises from the big blind, I would loosen my callling standards. I also try to stay away from peoples blinds if they are defending theirs with their life.

U can't stop a resteal unless u are deepstacked. Just fold and complement his read. Mind u, if u steal a bit less this is good for u. Eventually u'll have a good hand (JJ+ if he's been restealing) and unless he got very lucky u can send him packing.
Btw--resteals are a great way to get chips from aggressive players late in MTTs.

to state the obvious, if you push then they can't resteal

if your stack is too big to warrant pushing for the blinds then have a semi-decent hand before stealing/raising (KJ+, 66+)
