[EDIT] Just figured out what I wrote wasn't very useful. He's something more intelligent, I hope.
1. I would have just folded to the turn bet.
2. When you get a call on that flop (with bottom pair) you KNOW you're beat (maybe a donk on a draw, but I'm thinking pair). Now the 0nly way to win the pot is to push this guy off.
3. In order to push the guy off you need to be aggressive.
3a. Checking the turn in not aggressive
3b. Check raising the turn IS aggressive, BUT what are you repping here? What do you bet on the flop and check on the turn? 2nd pair? Top pair no kicker? Trapping with trips? "IF" you have trips and are trapping, BY DEFINITION the guy should have a hard time figuring out what you have and WILL NOT fold.
You saw weakness and tried to capitalize on it. The play you made works. Maybe you should have reraised bigger (you didn't raise the full pot, it looks like it's more based on his bet), but the fact that he called off that much of his stack makes me think he may have called anything.
After that big call I likely check it down too.
If I sound high an mighty, I'm not. I'm running 25% ITM this week and +$3. So if you don't like my analysis, you have some evidence to discount it. I'm just telling you what I see.
Original post: In case you want to see the stuff I wrote first.
You made a good play. I have a feeling I make guys (er... opponents) lay down the best hand pretty regularly by being aggressive.
This is just one of those times he figured to hang on. If you lead out again on the turn you 'probably' get him to go away. The check indicates weakness. Now this guy puts YOU on a J. Figuring (however they figure things) that a T is better than the average card, his kicker is likely to be good, he calls your reraise.
I know it's hard to fire off another bet in the turn without the cards, and I rarely do it. And who knows maybe this guy was stuck. I can't believe what some guys get attached to. Maybe losing that reraise was better than pushing the turn. He just night have called...
Ah well. Can't push em off every middle pair.
