This is the ballsiest push I make all tournament. I have only TP-Decent Kicker. All the preflop limpers made me rule out hands like AK... My instincts said I was ahead, and I need to accumulate chips at some point. I had time yet, but decided to take a stand here. It worked out.

Getting 5-1 to call on the flop, and a fun little holding to play. I flop Top pair plus Open Ended, and lead out. Never like getting reraised here... but I had so many outs, that I have to call it. I hit Gin on the turn, and all the money goes in. This was the last hand before break, and puts me in GREAT shape heading into the bubble.

This hand us HUGE. I decided to overbet here, because opponent was on a bit of a burner, and was geting really loose with his calls... I figured I could pick up a decent pot... or run out 5 cards for a huge lead. I liked both options and decided to push. The Small stack is irrelevant here. He's almost nonexistant.

Why did you decide to check rather than bet? Were you pretty sure that he would bet no matter what he had? In this case he had a 6, but what if he didn't have it? Or what if, as you mentioned as a possibility, he did have two spades?

You say you should have checked here, but you had been raising preflop and putting a lot of continuation bets into the pot after the flop in several previous hands. Do you think that it would have seemed odd or obvious if you had checked this flop? I like the bet.

The problem with that first hand Courtie, is this: That board is scary. The straight is kind of out there hitting you in the face. I'd played pretty tight at this point ( I definitely opened it up a little later) but if I raise here I'm getting no action at all unless my somewhat tight opponent hit the flop hard. I don't like the flush draw... but I think my only way to make money is to check and let him bet at it. He puts in a pretty solid raise, and I have the nuts. I don't THINK he has the flush draw... but it's possible. At this point, I think I can push over top of him, and get a call or a fold... both of which are fine to me.

I know the logic there seems a bit backwards... but heads up in a blind vs. an UTG Limper, I think I'm okay to slowplay this a bit. My push might have been a bit overzealous, but it worked out. Had I raised him small, all the money is going into the pot anyway.


On that second hand, I considered everything you'd said. You've seen every hand that I played... and while there are a fair amount of C-bets in there, how many did I actually SHOW? So my opponents have no idea what I'm actually playing. The problem with my hand is that I have a weak ace... so it's not a great hand for slowplaying... or for pushing. I think I might have made more had I limped... but I don't know if I can get any more out of the hand either way. It's food for thought.

You're right, worse hands call and the KJo raises because it's obvious you missed the board and are stealing the pot. He's certainly not folding such a pretty hand when he knows that King is comming on the river...

Play more and stop projecting how you think a hand should be played onto your opponents. Better yet, go to a B&M game and talk strategy at the table, but let THEM do all of the talking. Learn to appreciate just how horribly people play this game.

Bet your best hands and expect them to call/raise because it's what they do. Against typical opposition betting is the best way to get money into the pot.
