    Default Mid Tourney Blind Steal as SB, when to risk it?

    Ok the total pot was like 1350 w/just blinds and antes. I had a pretty tight table image so far, and player X had played maybe 3 hands in the last 30 minutes.

    Blinds 600/300 50 ante, going up to 800/400 in 3 min.

    BigRoy = 6700.
    Player X = 13000.

    Roy = SB.
    X = BB.

    Roy = K5s
    Other 8 players fold.
    Roy pushes all in.
    X calls with KQo.

    When you guys are the short stack, do you take risks leaning on the BB like this?

    That's a pretty odd call for more than half his stack there - he must have had little doubt that what you were going for was a stone-cold steal..

    IMO, it's always better to attempt stealing blinds one or two positions prior to the button. The earlier your raise, the more it will get respected. Players on the big blind will always be suspicious of button or SB raises, while raises from MP will garner much more respect.

    Another thing you might want to try is just going for a 4-5x bb raise to steal there instead of pushing all in right off the bat.

    The guy waited almost until the comp forced him to fold to make the call, so he must have been thinking on it pretty hard. I felt like w/the blinds and antes going up that I would have either had to push or fold. I guess when I am the SS, with everyone else 10k+, you get a little greedy. Like I said, the guy only saw 3 flops so I figured I could just push him over. Thanks for the tip though, do you guys think this trick works better if I am the BB, and push against a SB who merely calls?

    i dont think you need to go all in to steal the blind in that situation.

    it actually seems more like a steal... hes probably thinking if you had a good hand you wouldnt have pushed there and puts you on a steal..

    HUH? He has like 4-5 m, any raise he's committed. His push is +EV every time in this situation.

    My eyes are bleeding from reading this. Ouch....they hurt....he has like 4m. Any raise is over 1/3rd his stack and he has to call if the BB pushes. If you have less than 10 big blinds with no antes, or less than 10 m with antes, and its folded to you in the small blind....all in...the cards don't matter, just go all in.

    its not all numbers. lambchopdc has a very good point. the pshcology of a smaller raise tells the BB u want a caller and therefore, he may be more likely to fold

    p.s. i woldnt of pushed here. it was silly

    obv. you misread my comment. This push is +ev every time. This push is standard...im in disbelief that its even being questioned. I think everybody is being way too results oriented here. If you don't make this push with any 2 cards...time to do a leak check.

    With an M of ~5, you have to be pushing most hands here. Kxs is plenty good enough. Against most opponents, I'm pushing most hands and folding the worst here.. like unpaired, unsuited low cards.
