    Default ReRaises from Limpers

    Happy New Year all,

Hand from PP SnG. Blinds 15/30. All stacks are about avg. +/- 750.

Me on Button. One limper in mid postion.
I pick up AJs and raise to 95.
    SB folds
    BB calls
    Limper reraises to 175.
    I call, BB calls.

    Flop: A, 9, 4 Raindbow.

    BB checks
    Limper bets 550.

    Me????????

I know I got what I was looking for the A but the 550 scares me.
I thought I heard on this site that a preflop reraise from a limper usually means a big hand?

Whats my move here? and should I have folded preflop to the reraise?
Why is it a penny for your thoughts but
you have to put your 2 cents in??

Oy. That's a tough one. Any reads? The only hands that might be pulling this (assuming non-donkitude) are AK, AQ, AA, and maybe KK... or a 99.

Your opponent left himself no room to get away from the hand, so he wants to take it all the way down. There's a chance you're ahead here, but it's pretty slim.

On balance, lacking any real read, I fold.

Do you think he'd reraise preflop w/A10 or worse? I doubt it. He could have kk, but I think you have to let that AJ go when you get reraised preflop. If you aren't comfortable calling on that flop then you shouldn't bother calling the reraise.

edit: It is a suspicous bet- most don't push ai w/AK on that flop (no draws), but I am still folding.

I did fold and probably should have folded after the preflop reraise.

    Now heres the funny part.

BB calls putting himself all in.

Turn and river are blanks. Limp/Raiser turns over 10,10 Arggggg.

Oh well, made a note on him and played on.

I wish you wouldn't have posted that! Because I was about to post that limp-reraiser could easily have qq jj or 1010, and then I would have looked like a genious when I was right.

    Now I just look sad.

I probably fold there too btw.

This is four-handed, is it not? I don't think it's a sure-fire fold in that case. I think this situation is very read-dependent. If limper likes to get aggressive with a lot of hands, this is an instacall, in my opinion.

Unless someone has shown otherwise always assume that a limp re-raise equals the nuts i.e KK and AA. You should fold this PF

Most of the time you're beat here, if you can't get away from the hand when you're outkicked, you should fold it pre-flop. It's OK to play AJ when you know you're up against a better hand, but you have to play it well. When you hit the J you should fold when you're up against QQ,KK & AA and bet for value when you're up against AK high, TT,99,88. When you hit the ace you have to fold when you're outkicked and bet for value against KK,QQ,JJ. AJ's a difficult hand to play and you need make good reads to make it worth playing. Once in a while you'll make a bad read, but a bad fold is a small mistake compared to a bad call.
