    Default Was this a good play? [2,2] all-in post-flop.

I'm wondering if you think this was a good play. My reasoning was, the only way a person would call is if they had a 10. I had to make the play in the dark, but i didn't believe anyone held the 10. I called originally for the pot odds and hoping to catch the trips. I realize it was a risky play, but it was a way to take down 360 chips when I was at a mediocre position. What do you guys think?

What made you sure that no one had a ten?

    fold preflop.

If blinds aren't huge compared to your stack, if the raise is more than 10% of the smaller of your and your opponents' stacks, then you need to fold preflop. This was a preflop fold.

What are you basing your assumption that no one had a ten on?

If the only hand you were sure would call you is someone with a ten (which you're *dead* wrong about, BTW), why would you risk all of your chips for it?

Don't post the results. If I were posting this, I would have put

And that's it. If we see the results, our thought processes are clouded.

How many SnGs do you play at a time? Why don't you have any reads on your opponents?

I had a nice reply typed up, but the crux of my statement is this:

IF you win the hand it's nice. You pick up a few hundred chips. However it's still early in the SnG and winning this hand in no way guarantees that you'll win the SnG. If you lose the hand it's lights out.

By the way - an observant or gambling player holding a higher pocket pair or an 8 might call your AI.

As it is, I think playing for a set preflop is _okay_ but generally dicey with 22 and so many others in the pot. You can find a better place and time to shove than here.

(edit - didn't see that this was a raised pot - in a SnG with so many others in the pot it's a preflop fold)

if u pushed and I had JJ QQ KK AA
    i woulda called

    sorry
    this is a horrible play

usually i dont have any reads on my opponents either.

yah i didn't think it was the greatest play. just so happened they folded.

would you call my allin with AK, AQ, AJ, A10 though? 2 cards to catch your overpair?

Furthermore, if you had JJ, QQ, KK, AA, wouldn't you raise more then 90 to try to isolate? AA/KK/QQ is nice, but not with 5 people in the hand.

I would say 95% of the time I would fold pre-flop in this situation. But I'm sure you're aware of the "feeling" you get sometimes. Sometimes you just feel your cards more then others.

There is one aspect to this play that you haven't considered. At this point in the tourney there are most likely at least one or two donks left who would call with any of the above hands or even a hand with an 8 in it. Now, you have put yourself in a position to get drawn out on and be out with a hand that clearly should have been folded pre-flop.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

    Johnny-
you are the same player that filled the "most sngs lost" post with a bunch of bad beat stories and complained that you were getting sucked out on. Here, you are ASKING to be sucked out on. You have a pair of twos, about the worst hand you can have. The only reason you got everyone to fold was cuz you represented the 10 before anyone else did. I imagine you got any other pocket pair to fold, and there were almost definately a couple of them in the hand with that many callers preflop.

You're lucky they believed you - I would have called you with 66 if I had the chips to do it - your move is a blatant steal.

This is a leak and one of the reasons you're losing sngs. And you can't call pre-flop cuz you have a "feeling"! come on, dude. don't complain that you get beat if you play based on some "feeling" you had...

I knew someone was gonna relate this to the SnG post. This is *NOT* a move I make very often. I really shouldn't have posted this. Looking back, I see this move was a mistake. But if I lost on this hand, I wouldn't have chalked it up to a bad beat. When I lose a tourney to a clearly better hand, I just brush it off and start another. This play really doesn't give a good accurate description of how I play. It was just a, from what I am now realizing, bad play.

But that's what this site is for right?

You had a feeling that you would miss the flop, push, and that no one would call?

I suggest you get a job as a psychic.

Yes, it is, and I'm (almost) sure I speak for everyone when I say I'm glad you've got a thick enough skin to take the criticism. These guys & gals don't pull punches, and they'll pummel you hard for making a donk play. Keep posting (but don't keep being a donk).
