Four handed I make the call.

The rest is uneventful in that I caught some hands and closed it out.
  2. #2
#1) Minraising at this level sucks, no matter what the hand. You're lucky you took it down so easily.

#2) Bad play with 79o - you're in early position and are betting out in the dark for the hand with an UNsuited one gapper. Don't limp, don't call the raise. Why call the turn? Did you KNOW that you could bluff him off the river?

#3) EP suited connectors = bad. Nice catch tho.

#5) Bet more on the flop. It's somewhat connected and two pair isn't a license to print money.

#6) Re-raising w/ QQ is preferable, but nice play.

#8) You didn't play it properly - you had the best hand preflop and you let people in for cheap, including a limping small stack w/ 4xBB?!? Raise him out.

#10) You've got TP decent kicker, raise that two-suited flop. You're letting overcards and flush draws away cheap.

#13) How certain were you that stab didn't have anything? Did you have a read? Without a read, I'd be tempted to fold this.

All in all, I think you should be more aggressive with your made hands and stop letting draws/overcards in cheap. Be more selective on your starting hand requirements and be mindful of position.
  3. #3
Before I get into the actual hands let me give you some feedback on posting hand histories:

Take out all of the extraneous stuff in the hands, especially the summaries as it keeps the length down.

Number your hands so if someone wants to comment on just one or two hand they don't have to count them.

Put in ALL of the hands that you played, not just the ones you feel need critiqued (sp?), even the hands that you folded (with any comments necessary). You may be folding hands that were good opportunities to steal. For example you could put in the following:

Dealt to gladi8tor333 [Js Ad] - Folded to 4x BB raise

    Now, on to the hands

Hand 1 - For starters you don't need to "mix it up" as much in a SNG (even one with 45 players) as most of your opponents are not that observant. Secondly, if you do decide to mix it up K3 isn't the hand to try that with. Heck 3 2 offsuit is a better stealing hand than K3. Finally, what were you trying to accomplish with your raise? A min raise like that will not eliminate anyone but will only add more chips to the pot.

I do like your continuation bet on the flop, however this time you went from not betting enough to betting too much. The pot has 180 in it. If you bet between 60 to 90 you would most likely get the same callers that you would get with a bet of 120.

Hand 2 - What the heck were you even doing in this hand to begin with? You are out of position and 97o is a horrible starting hand. I will give you some props for having the cojones to bet on the river though. Again, you got lucky.

Hand 3 - Those suited connectors are too low to be playing in early position. It is also hard to semi bluff with two others in the pot (although not impossible). When he raised your bet on the flop you had to believe that he had a Q or J in his hand. This means that you called a bet with 5 to 1 pot odds on an inside straight draw. Those aren't good enough odds to make that call. Nice bet on the turn though as any bet of reasonable size commits you to the pot anyway.

Note: Just from these two hands it appears as if you are playing too many hands (which is why you should post every hand) and may be getting action because of that with even marginal hands.

    Hand 4

I realized that I was playing with a bunch of donkeys who were playing Kx nothing
I hate to say it, but after showing down that last hand I would have identified YOU as one of the Donkeys if I were playing in this tourney.

Good fold, even without donks at the table QJ is too weak to play, especially behind a raise.

Hand 5 - Why the min bet? Were you trying to slow play the two pair? If so that is not a terribly bad idea. Athough LowBoy makes a good point about the board being somewhat connected it would be hard to believe that anyone other than the SB has a chance at a straight. However, if you weren't slowplaying you needed to put in a higher bet (say 450) to get everyone out of the pot. Also, when the A hit on the turn why did you push? If the other player hit his A I would think you want him in the hand at this point. Again, put in a good sized bet to get rid of the SB and entice him to call you with his pair of A's.

Hand 6 - I like your call pre-flop. His raise should eliminate all of the riff-raff and you still have the chance of running into a monster hand behind you. If you re-raise and then get re-raised behind you it would be tough to make that call. I also like your play after that. Dicey's bet on the flop screams continuation bet which was confirmed by his check on the turn. Nice takedown.

Hand 7 - This would have been a good opportunity to raise. You are out of position the rest of the hand and are up against only one limper who presumably has a weak starting hand. I do like your bet on the flop though as it gave you a chance to at least define your hand there.

Hand 8 - You have to raise here. You will be out of position the rest of the hand and shouldn't let the BB take a free card with what is most likely the best hand at this point. Even if the limper calls your raise you could have, most likely, taken down the pot with a continuation bet on the flop (the Q would have been a scare card for him). If he calls that bet (or comes over the top) you are done with the hand.

    Hand 9 -
Got caught with my hand in the cookie jar
I think you posted the wrong hand here, you folded this one (rightly so) pre-flop.

Hand 10 - You should have raised his bet on the flop (probably a pot size raise). You have an OK hand at the moment but not strong enough to let him stick around on.

Hand 11 - A9 four handed (with the two folds behind you) is a pretty good starting hand. You have to get out of the habit of giving people free cards this late in the tourney. Put in a raise here pre-flop. Also, since you did limp in you should have raised his bet on the flop, not the turn to see where you stood in the hand.

Hand 12 - I'm just going to say it. IMO, you played this hand terribly for the following reasons:

Your "M" (If you haven't read Harrington on Hold-em this is the size of your stack compared to the blinds and antes) is less than 10. It is time for you to start making some moves. This hand is marginally good enough to do that so you need to either push or fold pre-flop. If Unearth had shown a pattern of stealing blinds I would probably push here, othewise I may fold and wait for a better spot.

Good probe bet on the flop, however when he calls you have to believe that, unless your hand improves you are behind. At a minimum you should be happy with checking it down at this point.

What the heck were you thinking with that bet on the river? He had to know that the 7 didn't help your hand and you certainly haven't shown a great amount of strength.

OK I am a donk. Getting late.
Did you notice this then or afterward? If it was just after the hand that is a sign that you understand when you play hands poorly.

Hand 13 - I disagree with LowBoy here. Just about any hand that has your beat at this point would have warranted a pre-flop raise from the SB position. If he was trapping you then you say nh, gg and move on. I like the move.

Hand 14 - I would have bet a little higher (nitpicking though) pre-flop (say 1800) and on the flop (1200).

Note: You went from ending the last hand with approx. 10,000 chips and now have over 30K. How did you get them, good poker or lucky? Again, show us all of your hands, not just the ones YOU think should be evaluated. Part of critiquing play is evaluating trends as well as individual hands.

Note 2: If you do decide to do this though you may not want to pick a 45 player SNG as that is just TOO many hands.

Hand 15 - Good bet on the flop, although I would not have shown the hand. Every time you show your opponents a hand (either voluntarily or not) they get more information on how you are playing. Make them wonder when you are getting hands or not.

Summary - Early in the tournament you need to be more selective in the hands that you play, especially when you are out of position. When you do get involved with a hand however play them more aggressively to avoid giving people free or cheap cards unless you want one also.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

Thanks for the analysis. I appreciate the feedback. In regards to some of the hands, my play flucuates. Last night I have did some things in that tourney that I don't ordinarily do. Like the one hand in which I played K70, I USUSALLY never play Kx or Ax even. Well, I have been running a bit cold as of late and wanted to loosen my game some.

Some of my problem has been that when I am playing tight, tossing marginal hands in the beginning; by the time the blinds hit 50-100 or 75-150 my M is usually about 9 to 11 (1300 to 1700ish) in chips. That's when my game sucks the most. My ability to steal is not the best, along with all the other LAGGYs flinging chips all over the place.

I am currently reading Harrington on Holdem 1 & 2 and its help some. Well, I appreciate the feedback.

As for the jump in chipstack, I think some of the missing hands are all ins with premium hands in which i was a favorite. Will post ALL pertinent info next time along with numbers.

    Your welcome.

Another thing to keep in mind is that as you get better at playing correct hands you will need to increase your ability to be patient as you will be playing less hands. The next step is to then make the most of the hands that you do play. That will help the situation of having a low M when the blinds get higher.

For example, there were a couple of hands where you got "itchy" and went all-in instead of allowing your opponent to make the wrong decision and stay in a hand where you were ahead, thus increasing the chips that you won on that hand.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.
