Default easy push or easy fold?

45 man sng so we're in the money, however payout is weighted for top 3. Minraiser here has been fairly passive, such as folding his BB to a button minraise from the shortstack but isn't very good either. Half the time a raise was 3xbb and half the time 2x from most players at the table. Do I go for the homerun here, or let the shorties get knocked off and move up the payscale and find a better spot?

You're pissing with a big stack here. If you push and it folds back to him, he's getting over 2:1 on his money HU. If he has ANYTHING he's calling you. I find a better spot

I'm folding. This hand is going to be three-way at least for the short-stack who has yet to act after you.

Hopefully, villain here realizes this and is trying to get heads up with the short stack.

AJ is not a good hand in a multi-way pot. So you are only playing heads-up for 5000 of your stack. Still, villain knows that he will probably be called by the short stack but only if the shorty has a decent hand, as he only has to post blinds for the rest of this round.

    I'm folding in this spot.

He's second in chips so he either got extremely lucky or isn't THAT bad. I would just call here and evaluate after the flop.

Fold it. Your stack isn't able to withstand a call right now. You are looking for a good hand to push when first to act. This isn't the spot or the hand to call or come over the top with. Your stack will hold up until you find the right hand. Be patient.

Edit: Meant to say "isn't" not is.

Good point. I may need to review some of my games to see if calling in this situation is a leak in my play.

    Cold calling here is bad.

I'd fold it. I'm not looking to get called when I have AJo.

That's enough information to justify not coming over the top. He's a big stack and he miniraises. This miniraise indicates he wants action IMO, I fold for sure here

It's a butt clencher... I know you want to win this... but you gots to be thinking about 3rd place right now.

Think of it this way... if you take the remaiing 7000 chips belonging to players with shorter stacks than you, and give it to the chip leader your odds of finishing higher than 3rd hardly decrease.

I would be worried about stealing blinds to stay even, not doubling up. I will worry about doubling up when I drop to 4th or 5th place.
