What do people do when they get dealt a bad hand in the big blind but see a free flop and have top pair?

I think the flop check/call is good but definitely lead the turn.

I would lead the flop with 2/3 pot

lead the flop. if UTG is really a huge fish he could have anything, and will probably call with it too, so your KT is probably good. SB has at least 1 pair, and you dont want to give him a chance to hit two pair. or he is slowplaying 2 pr, and you want to find out now rather than when its going to cost you more.

With no flush draw or obvious straight draw you are really only worried about someone playing K with a better kicker. In this case you should lead on the flop with a 2/3 pot bet to see where you stand.

Your hand is highly vulnerable and you want to find out where you stand. You can go into check/fold mode depending on the odds on the turn.

That's why I think you should wait til the turn to bet out. I think a lot of people will tend to call such bets on the flop since there are two cards to come. With only one card to go and faced with such a bet, a lot more will give up their hand in my opinion.

Your hand is top pair, which may be good, so rep TPTK. By not leading out on the flop you are saying that's what you don't have, which is more information than your opp has paid for, so why give it to him for free? No point in giving your opp another card if you don't need to.

That may be so. I'm just throwing that thought out there.

I'm not criticizing - we all play differently - and your line is more passive, which would probably save you chips if you are beat. But you don't know that yet so I'd try to take it down if I could, and back off if I met stiff resistance.

Most people are not going to give you credit for AK unraised in the BB vs. UTG limper... but I guess you could rep KQ.

c/r the flop is good too. I don't reallly need to see that turn card. If he calls the c/r, try to get to show down cheaply.

check-call-lead is a donk bet. You should probably do this at like the 109s or in an FTR tourney just to cheese people off.

You also don't want the donk playing K6s to get a free card to see four to a flush or make two pair.

Chances are your KT is the best hand now, so bet like it.
