    Default Not a bad beat

As the header says, this is not a bad beat story, but an honest question.

Freeroll, so those of you who don't consider these real tournaments can stop reading now

2000 entrants. 25 players left. Freerol, as stated, but with 1975 players out you'd assume the worst dorks gone...

    Tournament chip leader goes mad.

    AI, table folds.
    AI, table folds.
AI, one caller. 56 s busts QQ. 23 players left.
AI, I call. My AA holds up and I double.
    AI, one caller. Q 2 o busts A J s, 22 players left.
    AI, table folds.
    AI, table folds.
AI, one caller. KQ s busts TT, 21 players left.
    AI, table folds.
AI, one caller. 7 3 o cracked by JJ.
AI, one caller, T 5 cracked by KQs.
AI, two callers. J 6 o cracks my A J s and busts shortstacked TT. 20 players left.
    AI, two callers. 2 3 s busts 66 and 99. 18 players left.
    AI, table folds.
    AI, table folds.
    AI, table folds.
    AI, one caller. 6 3 s cracked by Q T s.
AI, one caller. 4 2 o cracks AA.

That's 18 AI straight. After this the player calmed down and only bet AI every third hand or so, busting another 3 player until we were 10 players left at which time his 9 2 0 busted my KK and I left the tournament.

Now, how the *** do you handle a player like this this far into the tournament? Antes and blinds pervent players from camping too long.

You call his all in if you feel your hand is better. That's all you can do. It's his right to push all in. That's why high stacks are powerful. You had KK racing 92o. Who could ask for anything more?
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

We could see a free flop holding 99, have the flop come down 995 rainbow, and have villain push AI with 23s. Of course villain could always hit runner runner straight flush though, so maybe we should fold?

    See the comparison?

When the madness started he had some 290 - 350 K. As he busted people or got cracked his stack varied wildly in size. I think he was down to 90 K at one stage. When he busted me he was back to the 350 - 400 K range, so all in all he didn't gain any measurable amount of chips for some 50 hands or so.
At any given time he never had more than 3:1 chip-lead to second best on table, and quite often he was way below table chip-leader after getting cracked.

I think I basiaclly wonder what makes someone play solid poker for three hours and then go out on a tangent.

Ok, statistics allow for strange things, but I simply refuse to believe that he spent three hours ending up in the chip-lead with 25 players left of 2000 by sheer coincidence. I mean, he must have done SOMETHING right
