There's no way I'm ahead in this right? Like I said, first hand of tourney (very first hand was folded around to BB), so no reads on player. Only thing I could think of that I was beating was A9. More or less, I'm wanting to know if there's any way to know if this is a set or a wheel.. or do I just accept that I'm beat and get in another hand?

terrible fold on the river. Did he call you all the way down to catch his queen? If you put him on overs, you just cant fold one one over comes on the river and you have half your stack in the pot already. First of all you should have raised 4-5x preflop. When people have 75bb stacks, they go and call off 2 bb all day.

Riase more preflop to try and figure out where you stand.

When they check- smooth call you on the flop, it might be a good idea to slow down and check behind on the turn, then the river comes the Q, and you can go ahead an call his value bet. If he pots it on the river it would lead me to believe one of two things:

A he wanted to check raise you on the turn, feels he isnt getting enough out of hte hand, and therefore thinks the over bet will make up for that.

B he holds A9, and is just donk betting.

Its the first hand of the mtt, you have no reads, and because you checked behind on the turn, you have minimal investment in this pot, so you can lay this down if he bets big.

Also take note that he check-smooth called you on a unconnected (except for the low straight draw) unsuited board. This should make you second guess if you are ahead or not.
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

You need to make your decision once you get raised on the turn here. Either fold there, or push.

And no, there's no way to know what he has without a rocksolid read. He could have a set, the wheel, a 9, two pair, a flush draw, nothing. I am overly aggressive, so I would have probably pushed that turn. If I lose, on to the next tourney.

I would limp pre-flop looking for a set, bet $60 into an uncontested
$80 pot with that flop. If called, check/fold to anything more than a min bet. It's too early to mess around.

TT is not a limping hand IMO.

I would agree, if it wasn't so early.

I'm not overly agressive and don't like thinking "If I lose, on to the next tourney." I was offering a different opinion.

At the low buy-in tourneys (don't know if that's where this is, but where I play) you can wait for a great hand, instead of just a good hand, and still double up. So I make a weak-tight play here, not a TaG play.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking too.. limp because it's early.

    It was a $30+3 mtt.

I am tempted to check behind on the turn. Call PF, check/call flop, check turn on rainbow (is) board worries me. TP does not play that way... when he raises you on the turn you know for SURE that you are owned.... maybe, maybe he has A9. He could have 43 and own you.

Check behind on the turn, river plays itself (call small bet, bet 1/2 pot if checked to, fold to a big raise).

I can see raising to isolate pre-flop or just limping along. Since 4 folded already, I think isolation / bet no overs is best.
