I don't think so. You hit the flop and now you have to go with it. If they want to draw out on you or have an over pair they have to call a large portion of their chips. I am suprised that with his stack he didn't raise you preflop though.

I pondered this... but the table was reasonably tight. Leaving myself 4xBB behind in case I totally whiff would have left me enough ammo to open push both the SB and Button. While I don't generally advocate this kind of play in my spot, I felt it was the right play to just limp and proceed from there, based on the table at the time. Also, I got a little crazy recently, and my opponent limping made me think that he might have been anticipating my push.

I play it exactly the same. You don't have much time to be messing around. You are at 5x BB. You either take down some chips or run into A9. I am satisfied with the result either way (you arein the money, right)? I don't like pushing here because I don't like the hand strength here, but I understand why. 5x is push/fold strategy from what I am reading, right?

preflop push is ok, heasd up Q9 aint that bad, if hes trapping thats shitty. On the other hand I dont knock you for just checkin along preflop. You have good reason to do this too. On the flop though, I dont see why you have to push? The pot is 800, bet 600, he calls push the turn. This gives your opponent room to make an error. Short stacked or not, I dont see value in over betting the pot here, what can he call with? Hands that beat you, thats what. If you bet 3/4 the pot, what can he call with? He really shouldnt be calling with anything but TP or better, in which case you could still be ahead, even though he shoudlnt though, doesnt mean he wont. Even fish understand taht they cant get out of the hand once they call an all in, but he can make a huge mistake and call 600.
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

If my top pair were higher, I might consider your line. The problem is, that if any Jack, King, or Ace hits, my hand shrivels up. Any regular bet is going to pot commit me. I'd rather maximize the value of my hand here and get my maximum fold equity. I can, and DID get called by worse hands. Never underestimate the ineptitude of your opponents.

When you're at a point where eliminations are paramount, I generally don't play for chips... I'm playing for stacks. The time to induce calls with marginal hands has passed. I have to disagree with you here, Boost.

I don't think your hand is good enough to push preflop, but thats just me.

I also don't push that flop. Pot's only 800 - you have top pair and should be able to get more out of it that that. I pause a bit and then bet 500, hoping opp thinks I'm full of shit. Hopefully he hit the 4 or 6. You need chips, and you should be able to get at least one more bet out of opp before telling him that he is beat. Push the turn. He may even have a 6 and call your push.

But I can't fault a push on that flop, either.

no no no you got it all wrong. He holds only 2 cards, no more no less. Any over card does NOT kill your hand, and yes you are comitted nad you are playing til the end. Why are you afraid of 1 over card? even if there was an overcard on this flop I might make the same play. If hes calling for a 3 or 6 outter he is once again making a mistake. YOU WANT THIS!
