If Hero is making these kind of preflop raises consistently, then it is safe to assume that Hero is betting with air enough times here for the Villian to call the flop bet and assume he's good on the turn. Poor push by Hero; and furthermore, kordothebear is the man.

As villain, I would think that the flop missed hero. I agree that villain should have gone AI after hero bets. Hero has to take into consideration that villain may have a K. Maybe a feeler bet here to see where he is at on the turn. However, the smooth call pre-flop from villain to me is a sign of weakness if villain has been noticing a lot of raises by hero. If not frequent, an EP raise by hero could seem scary to villain, hence the smooth call pre-flop. After villain smooth called hero's flop bet, hero should play the rest of the hand cautiously.

I personally don't feel his opp was short enough for calling the preflop (as opposed to pushing) to be a mistake. I think both are valid, and he's possibly making more by just calling.

That flop looks pretty good for AK. I don't mind a call their either, though a reraise seems much better. Once the K came, villian's hand played itself.

I agree that the push on the turn was a bit aggro. Next to Ax and pairs, Kx is the most likely hand to call with preflop. I could see villian's play with AK, KQ, KJ, KT (if villian is loose preflop). I also wonder if an overbet like that is going to be genuinely seen as holding a hand. I think a lot of players would call with many pairs - some even with Ax, just because it looks suspicious.

I think I am just restating what's above... but it's not plausable that 994 hit Hero's hand.
Repping an over pair is just dicey sometimes. Villian probably thinks that his overs are live if Hero has a PP. Plus if Hero raises alot and *always* c-bets, you know he has air most of the time.

I think the reason you don't raise AK on that flop is that
    1) he is pretty short... a raise almost certainly is not going to kill Hero's pot odds while committing villain a/i one way or another.

    2) OK. I can't think of a 2nd reason. Maybe he puts Hero on f/d but thinks he'll call a re-raise anyway... so is planning to get it all in if the turn is a non-spade (he actually doesn't need the K here... he is still beating Hero)???

Hero's mistake is assuming that if he called the flop he can fold the turn, ever. Hero should maybe push flop with FD+BDSD+overcards (although under villians overcards)

As you said, rippy - if villian doesn't believe hero has a pp, then calling that flop bet is correct - and the turn plays itself.

took down a huge pot this morning on a hand played to the river, holding pocket 3s, with the same read that opp didn't have a pp. (villian was the aggressor - and had AK)
