Please help! Hand history inside.

[Rockymv]

I'm on a 36 buy-in downswing. I'm going to have to move down to the lame-ass 27's because I no longer have 50 buyins for the 60's. Variance is one thing but I've got to believe I could be doing a lot of things better. I would greatly appreciate some analysis on this hand history. I finished 4th in this particular tourney. I've edited out irrelevant hands up until the blinds reach 100/200.

Hand 3: Pity that's the Ac or you could be more confident in trapping. Well, checking to make it look like you thought you were ahead but now aren't sure. Still, I think this is fine. Take the pot.

Hand 4: Nice. Good aggression and nerve. ATo from early against a table where you get 3 callers with a raise to 5xBB might be -EV though.

Hand 8: Early in the tourney I'd limp that. Here I would raise it 4x.

Hand 10: What the fuck is that? A misclick or a brainspaz? You raise with ATo from EP with loads of people in the pot but 4-handed you won't open with ATs? That's probably a push with your short stack, or at least a raise to 4x. You just gave some money away.

Hand 14: Good push with the blinds as they are.

Hand 16: You folded, some idiot with AJ gets what he deserves for limping. Nelson says "ha ha!"

Hand 20: Is this really 1 hand after rockets? No, I don't think it is. Anyway I'd push that rather than raising 30% of my stack, but your raise worked and I'm sure you'd push any action.

Hand 24: oooh. what PP would you call with here? 66? 88? TT? What's your threshold for calling that?

Hand 26: Another inconsistency... the hand before, you pushed into a pot which already had a limper... with A7o. NOW you fold A8o into an unraised pot. Surely these should be the other way around?

Hand 27: Disaster. M of 6 and you put in a raise of 1/4 your stack from EP then fold to a re-raise!? The only reason you would put in a small raise here is if you wanted to push over a re-raiser, I think. Otherwise you push or fold.

Hand 30: His calling requirements here indicate he thinks you are pushing with anything or stealing.

Hand 38: Yeah, that's a fold.

Hand 42: Good. All players seem to be trying to hand on for dear life now. Huge blinds. I think you can push any 2 there.

Hand 44: Same guy who called your AQ push with any bit of paint calls your 22 push with any bit of paint and you luck out. I bubbled with 22 yesterday and was thinking of starting a topic about that hand today. Nothing wrong here really, unless people think that 22 is a caller or a folder. Battle of the shortstacks really. Perhaps there's a better position to push there.

FYI, SnG Power Tools says that is +0.1% EV. Basically it's as marginally positive as it can measure and you expect to lose as often as you win. It becomes a +EV Push at 44. The reason is that the BB is the low stack and surely will call you with loads of hands.


Hope that helps in some way. I dont see any massive reason for you not to have monied for 32 tournaments.

Why did you fold ATs when you were on the sb in hand ten. Even though you were up against a big stack and out of position, isn't ATs is good enough to play in that situation.

In hand 38 you folded jqo to a minraise when you were on the big blind. Since you are being laid 3:1 I think that is a call you could have made. Did you have a read on this guy to make that play?

I think you made a good laydown in hand 27.

In the final hand, I know that it is easy to say ex post but this all in was unnescessary against Hardcopy since he had already shown a willingness to call you down with very marginal holdings (q8). with 22 you are at best coinflipping and at worst dominated, this seemed odd since you had just built up your stack quite significantly. I think you could have used hardcopy's willingness to call all ins with junk by waiting for a hand and then raising all in to make it look like a steal.

I think in hand 3 where you made the set of aces, the all in on the turn may have been sub optimal. If he was on a str8 draw with jq on the flop then you are way behind on the turn and he is calling, without the str8 he will probably fold because you have represented strength throughout the hand. Personally, I think a check on the turn, followed by an all in on the river would have been better. This may get him to call with middle pair or worse because it looks like you put out a standard c-bet on the flop, when he called you cautiously checked the turn, and then put out a silly all in bluff to try and push him off on the river. On the other hand, I don't think there is anything wrong with your play in this hand either, when a pot gets this large relative to your stack there can't be anything wrong with just taking it down right there.


I think generally you played extremely solid poker.

wtf? I agree you are not folding here, so why open push? Thats a "FUCK HE HIT HIS GOD DAMN FLUSH" push. THe only thing calling you here is the flush and then you have ten outs and 1 card to come, doesnt sound too good to me. Instead check and let the guy try and semi bluff the flush with his KX, then check raise him. If he pushes, call of course, no one pushes thatflush on the turn. IMHO you minimized your possible winnings here and maximized your possible losings..

Push this preflop I think, just makes everythign easier, I mean you are calling if he pushes anyways, but I think people call with much weaker hands like QK and stuff to a push here. If he calls your raise preflop any missed flop on your part is a really bad situation, and I think you have to make a bet that comits you. Pushing preflop just makes everything so much easier.

It seems that the down swing has affected your play... well first let me say that i've never played a 55 before and i dont know how you typically play... but it seems that some of your decisions are a tad off and your play tentative in spots. I think this type of play is typical of someone on a downswing because my hhs looked similar when i was 25 down; trying to make the money.

I think you should push more, even if you have a hand you want to get paid off on. like the QQ hand, when you 3xbb raise, everybody knows you have a monster and fold correctly. 4 handed most hands you want to play should be pushed.

Also i think you fold your small blind way too much. steinyll is basically getting a free ride.

thnwkd: I agree I was playing too tight on my SB, although ICM says some of the pushes you suggest are -EV unless you give opp. VERY tight calling ranges, which these guys did not have. How can I even consider calling hand #24?

Hand 27: This hand is embarrasing.

Hand 44: I justified this push at the time by reasoning that, since the last time he called my push I had AQ, he may have tightened up his calling range. Looks like he didn't. Even if I'm pushing any two cards his call was -1.8%. One those times when you wish your opponents didn't suck quite as bad.

#27, no choice but to stop n go. I know it sounds so strange, but you are getting retardedly good odds. How can you fold, then you are first to act, and you have to take the chance that he doesnt have you beat. If you are thinking maybe you shoulda pushed here, I dont think so, there are too many to act after you and A3 aint cuttin it. You have 12x you can raise 3x here, as you did. Its a shitty position that this guy has put you in, but with a stop ngo here you have folding equity and I think its way better then folding preflop, pushing is obviously not an option.

last hand, 22 push is fine by me. The guy is short too, so what? K6 is exceptionally loose call. People lay down a lot of hands here, youd be amazed.
