    Default Question for WildBobAA

I was giving your recent hand history in the $20 PLHE FO you won and was hoping you could comment on this hand.

What was it that gave you the idea to continue to bluff after he called your check-raise? Did you take into account the decreased odds of him having AQ when the second Q fell?

I am trying to improve my MTT game so I would like it if you could tell me what clued you into this.

Wow lol. This is kinda reckless. If I remember correctly winterh was being very laggy, trying his hardest to be table captain. He was cbetting everything and I really felt my 77 was best. The Q on the turn was the best card to come off for me besides a 7. His call on the flop seemed really weak to me and I felt that he did not have a Q and was sitting there with missed high cards or 2 clubs. I wanted to end the hand and I probably could have bet maybe 800 to accomplish the same thing but if he came over the top of me, I was commited anyway with an 800 bet so I just pot it.

    Very read based.

I finally got a chance to read the rest of the HH, and I notice a couple of other things.

First of all, I think this HH is a great example of how to play a short stack. You had between 5-8 big blinds pretty much throughout the entire tournament.

My question is, given your ultra-tight playing style, how come you didn't take advantage of your tight table image and steal blinds? I don't think I saw you steal a single pair of blinds until the tourney was down to like 3 tables or something. I think you could have had a much easier time stack-wise if you would have taken advantage of this.

    Any comment?

I'll try to field that one for my part: Being short doesn't equate to being out in a tournament. That's something a lot of people don't seem to be able to handle. If you get too desperate, you're going to enter into a lot more situations where you have a lot on the line with a modest chance to win. The end result is often that you bust when you could have just played tight and continued on until you hit a hand. Reads can lead to a steal being right, and utter desperation can as well. Having 10xBB is not desperation in my book - you're playing push/fold, but you're looking for hands to do it with, because you still have time to do so.

As quickly as blinds rise (online esp.) stealing alone in iffy situations is not going to be enough to support you through; however running a bad steal is routinely enough to bust you. I guess I'm saying that it all comes down to timing things right. You don't have to steal a lot to win a tournament...sometimes it's incorrect to do so.

I understand what you are saying.

However in Bob's case, for the first over 200 hands, EVERY TIME he made a preflop raise, he had the goods. There were times when he had no more than like 9 or 10 big blinds and many chances of stealing in position when weakness was shown at the table, and chose not to. I was just wondering, especially in a 6 MAX situation where the blinds are so fierce, why he didn't ever steal.

I just find it intriguing because it seems like an unconventional strategy.

People don't realize that with patience and luck you can win without doing anything fancy.

You see so many bluffs, that you assume you must do so as well to win.

I have been in tourneys where all I do is wait for big hands, raise, and win huge pots without bluffing ever.

I been playing like this in my last 2 mtt, and just stealing the blinds once in a while. Won 2k$ playing this style.
