Default bet out or take a cheap showdown?

    Stars $10+1 -

Villian is poor. In too many pots, calling raises with drawing cards, chasing those draws against the odds. A few hands previous, he played back at me when his stack was ~800, but re-raised me about 2/3 of it, which totally baffled me, but I only had an inside straight with tainted outs and had to fold.

I check on the flop because I am concerned he has called with some goofball hand and want to see how he plays it. When he checks behind, I am fairly confident I have the best hand and put villian on something like QT, KJ, KT

Big Blind is t50 (6 handed)

    BB (t4155)
    Staresy (t2275)
    MP (t440)
    CO (t3460)
    Button (t1100)
    SB (t2070)

Preflop: Staresy is UTG with A, J.
Staresy raises to t150, 2 folds, Button calls t150, 2 folds.

    Flop: (t375) 8, 9, 2 (2 players)
    Staresy checks, Button checks.

    Turn: (t375) 5 (2 players)
Staresy bets t150, Button calls t150.

    River: (t675) 2 (2 players)
    Staresy to act....

Do you assume you have the best hand here and bet out again? If so, how much? Or is this one of those situations where you check-call a small bet looking for as cheap a showdown as you can get?

That is a tough one. The problem with loose fish like that is that they are more likely to hold on to hands that any of the rest of us would fold. For example he could have something like A5s and think it is golden.

At this point, with what you have, I think I would be content at checking it down. If he bets the river big you will have another difficult decision, but most fish aren't smart enough to totally bluff at a pot on the river.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

Bet whatever you would be willing to call if you were to check and he bet at you...... Probably 75-90, or whatever you think looks right. A small bet looks like you want him in the hand. If you check, he's liable to bet more than you're willing to call, but he may just call a small river bet if he has the 5 or small pp, and will probably fold a missed flush draw. And he'll raise with the deuces. I think it's your best chance for a cheap showdown. If you check, I doubt he'll make it cheap for you.

If he raises, you should probably just dump it. I doubt he'll raise without at least something (and anything beats your Ace high...)
