Default Setting goals to challenge yourself

I decided a month ago to try and play in a CPT event near where I live. The only problem was the buy-in of $200+20 for one of the tourneys, $300+30 for another and $500+50 for the big one. My bankroll was $1500....so I really could not afford it. I made a deal with myself that I would not dip into my online bankroll, but if I could raise the cash from the home game I go to over the next 3 weeks, I would play all I could afford with the winnings. Over the next 4 home games I managed to make $600 over my buy-in, so I paid for all three tourney casino fees - and decided to play the $200 and $300 buy in tourneys....and only play the $500 tourney if I made the money in the first two tourneys. I made it nowhere in the first tourney but managed to get 3rd in the $300 tourney....which allowed me to play in the $500 tourney. I lost in the $500 tourney, but I think this excercise helped in a lot of ways....#1. I played the best I could with the hope of going to the tourneys in the back of my head. #2 Playing in a tournament with players better than what I am used to has made me realize a lot of things about my game...and about my opponents game. #3 I have a big boost to my bankroll...in fact from $1500 to $5000 by playing well in the tourney. #4 My confidence is at an all-time high.

Anyone have any comments about my approach?
