    Default Really analyzing your play

Ok I just got knocked out of a rebuy tourney (again - it's been a bad streak of bubble finishes) and proceeded to beat the crap out of my pillows yelling how I just shafted.

I lost on two hands with a 3 out river and then shortstacked a KK that also got rivered by an OESD.

And I was bitching about how unlucky I am, and was going to post the two hands in my blog as a vent. But while I was typing, I realized how stupidly I played my first hand.

    Here's the hand:

I don't have any idea why I called that turn instead of raising it. The only thing calling did was allow him to catch. So although him catching a 3 outer to cripple me sucks balls. I really don't have anything to complain about since I let him. I'm not sure he would have folded that turn, but I think he would have. But even if he hadn't, then I'd have the right to bitch and moan. On this one, I don't think I really do.

Um...no raise on the flop either. Why?

Why raise the flop? If he's making a continuation bet, he isn't gonna call a raise. If he has a hand like JK or TK, he will bet the turn as well. I don't see any purpose in raising that flop. This stage of a tourney really is about maximizing value on your hands.

However, by the turn, he very well might think he is "pot invested" - I shoulda dropped the hammer there.

I think if you are going to call a raise from UTG with KQo and you hit your K on the flop, you have to take a stab at the flop. Bet the flop and see where you are at. I agree, you definitely needed to hammer the turn.

    Default hmm

yeah /agree more betting early should have pushed him out if hes a halfway decent player.

But i lost a few key hands this weekend also on KQ, QJ - these hands have become radioactive for me, kind of like 2pair, just good enough to lose money if you dont hit the draw. I hit the Q on KQ and lost to AQ, as an example.

I have to remember why i start playing a hand like that its really for the str8/2pair/3k draws, not for the top pair. if i hit one of those cards on the flop its very possible im outkicked. - Although hitting the K with Q kicker is pretty good as you feel opponent doesnt have AK/KK.

similar problem a few other posts are posting, i am on a draw and back into top pair and lose chips.

Lookign back at this hand now - I'm not that upset at how I played it. It was a bad beat. I was actually getting as much value as I could out of this hand by letting him bet it for me.

The fact that he didn't bet the river when he actually hit - was just gravy.

Better than biting the pillow while being shafted...

Oh the hand... fold preflop (even if AJ/AT is in his range you are *still* a 3:2 dog)... what are you hoping for here, 88 for a coinflip?

The way you played it is not horrible if you magically know he doesn't have AK/66/44/KK. I would like to know if I am losing, so I would either lead out on the flop, c/r flop... If you correctly put him on AJ, I think you played it well. He's not calling a raise, and miracled a 3 outer. At least you didn't push flop, get called by AJ and get knocked out rather than crippled.
