Why did you bet the flop?

I figured it was as likely as not that no one hit the flop and I'd take it down. Bottom pair on a fairly blank flop can be ahead a decent amount of the time, and it would give me info against any player who played back. For instance, if it checks to the button, his bet is just as likely to be a steal as not, yet I can't call. Here, I can reliably say he at least has something and be done with the hand if I don't improve. When I do improve...well, that's the question at hand.

i like the flop bet. tempted to make a check raise on the turn as hand just improved and is quite well hidden. If opp decides to go over that then its possible to pair no good but i think id reraise all in in that case

Ya I think your hand is legit.

What does he flat call the flop with (after limping in position) and raise the turn with?

    Air? Maybe.
    gutshot? Probably not
    overcards? I don't think so
    2 hearts (loose flop call)
    1 pair (A9?/A7)? Maybe
    1 pair+turned FD? That seems likely - A[579]h,
Overpair? Maybe... but very wierdly played
Turned 2P (93/73)? Post flop consistant, but would he really limp hands this bad?
    2P on flop? Probably not
    Set? Reasonable
64? (Double gut shot that hit) - Reasonable
68? Certainly - especially with 2 hearts out.

On the balance of things - he play is not very consistant with any hand you beat except AXs which just doesn't seem that likely.

Still, I think you can call here. I wouldn't re-raise, and I would be thinking about check-calling the river.

The choice is between calling and raising. I don't see how you can fold here. I raise if I think I am good here, which, usually I think I am.

This is what I thought too. I figured him for a TPTK-ish hand at the time and pushed. I subsequently talked the hand over with soupie and he responded much the same as zen - ultimately putting villian on a strong hand on the flop (set/straight) - save that he said that he's folding without a read.

For the record, Villian had top set and I didn't improve (not that I really could have...he'd have had 9s full to beat any boat I made on the river).

I think I need to give people just a bit more credit in high-buyin tournaments, unless they've given me reason to do otherwise.

Ahhh - high buy-in. The minraise, which is always scary, was much scarier then. I still woulda called and seen how he bet the river though.

I am not surprised he had the set, but I wouldn't have been surprised to see him with a hand like :Ah: either.

SOUPIE IS WEAK! Or knows how to play in large buy in MTTs. Or something.

I think you can raise this in a $22 SNG or equivalent.
