Default Keep getting bad beat out of tournaments =/

First post here, so hello everyone.
Been playing for a month or so now, but i've picked the game up pretty quickly. My uncle has been a great gambler for years (won the australian blackjack championships a while back) and so i've got a good grounding.

Been playing a mix of ring and tourney, but I enjoy tourneys a lot more. The problem is, this is the third tournament in a row i've hit a bad beat and been knocked out. I'm struggling to find motivation to keep playing when i just keep loosing with the superior hand.

Just now I flopped a set with my pocket 4s, villain had hit KK with J kicker, he called and hit Ks over Js boat =/

And about a week ago, all in with nut flush, then villain hits two aces in a row for quads.

It's incredibly disheartening. Don't know what I want out this post really except to vent and maybe get some tips for handling it. I want to keep playing but it's tough.

I take far worse beats than those on a nightly basis.

Bob, that's about as helpful as a kick in the nutsack.

Andy Kay - You're looking at the glass as if it was half empty. If you are knocked out by a bad beat then it means you got all your money in with the best hand. This = good.

Post some Hand Histories of these bad beats (in the Bad Beats forum, of course) and people might comment on them.

Either that or shake your fist at the sky shouting WHY, GOD? WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?

If you post in this forum, leave off the results. Let people comment on how they would have played it. I think what Bob is saying is that bad beats are going to happen and they will happen a lot. You won't win everytime you play even with the best starting hands.

    Bob: Helpful...

Rest of you: ACTUALLY helpful. Thanks. Was just frustrated I guess, can't ask for anything other than to be all in with the best hand.

Andy, just remember that the best online tourney players only cash 12 out of 100 tourneys, FT 4 of them, and win 1 and still get a 100% ROI in the longrun. MTTs are a long term game, don't let the short term bad beats get you down.

We really need to make some kind of a sticky that just says "Getting bad-beat out of the majority of your tourneys = standard"

    But would people read it...?
    I run a training site...

Check out strategy videos at GrinderSchool.com, from $10 / month.

I get bad beat more times in one day then you do in an entire month.

My girlfriend gets bad beat everytime dinner isn't on the table when I get home. Domestic abuse = standard. Now wash the dishes and get me a beer. Just kidding douchebags.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

I was fortunate enough to take down the 11pm $2500 guaranteed on UB last night, and I had all my hands stand up at the final table. I was a 4-1 favorite almost every time but the point is that you need to have your hands hold up to do well in a tournament. I always try to get my money in when I'm pretty sure I'm a big favorite, I try to avoid big money coinflip situations unless I've got little choice or I'm making a highly successful blind steal. Try not to let the bad beats get you down.

    Default hmm

my favorite tactic is to get all my chips in the middle with a 5-10% chance to win, then suck out on the river.

if youve never tried it before, try going in with the worst hand, youd be surprised at how well you can do like this!!!

I just don't like getting called by a guy with 2 over cards with only the river to come for all his chips vs my low pair and him getting his pair :P

Phil Gordon did an interesting article on the premise that in the WSOP main event if you got all your chips in with AA against someone who had you covered who had KK say 10 times throughout the course of the week, the probablility of you still being alive is very low indeed.

Bad beats happen all the time.
