I think you are ahead here, although I think this is one of those situations where, if you bet and get raised, do u really want to call with two overs, a flush and possible straight out there?

I have to say that I don't think these hands are likely, but I might just check behind and take down a smaller pot. You are (presumably) only a few hands in and this guy has completed from the SB. His range is massive.

I can see a river bet here. He checked twice and called.

I think I bet the flop here to define my hand

If the K had not been a club I would say yes, but villian could very easily have been chasing a flush. This early in the tourney I would check this down. A value bet just isn't going to give you THAT many more chips.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

    VQC,

Where were you playing a 10+1 SnG with 10 players and 800 in chips to start?

You can but because this is the first round checking is a good play too.

If you did a value bet of say, pot size what would you do here if villain came over the top and raised you 2x pot? Odds may dictate a call but this is not a ring game, stack size is more important here.

Also, you both checked the flop and then he called your raise on the turn. He could easily have something like J2 or he may even have hit that K on the river but decided to CR.

The one thing that says value bet though is that this tourney has $800 in starting chips and that's pretty small relative to the blinds - even in round 1. I'm used to PS where 1500 is the start. You have to make your money where you can with such a small stack size.

Actually, I gave it a few more minutes of thought and realized this: you don't value bet the river. You bet the river because you either have a hand that you want to be called or you are bluffing or semi bluffing and don't want to be called (in the case of a river semi bluff if someone had TPTK or 2nd pair middle or low kick). Value bets are for the flop. You put out a bet to see what kind of value your hand has and to see how the other players value their hand.

I think a value bet is ok. I doubt he'd check the river with the flush, since it looks like you're begging to check behind. Also, if you value bet, you'll probably get calls from 6's and 7's.

I wouldn't bet this flop in a cash game and sure as hell wouldn't if I'm trying to conserve chips for a real edge and win a prize.
