    Default KKK flop

This is 10th hand of 18 man, $5 @ ps. Would you approach this hand any differently? Since it was so early I was playing the hand only for set value.

Hero bets more on the river. If villian shows the case K, well, good for him.

    Well played.

Either villian is an idiot and shows AXs, made his flush on runner runner and thinks he played the hand brilliantly. Mark him as a fish and move on.......or he has the Case K and played it as well as you did, but with a better hand.

Or he held a smaller pair.

I played a similar hand yesterday with a pair of 2s after watching the other two players check around to me, so I bet out large got a fold and a call, and then pushed on the turn. Guy had less than a full house so I won. Point being, any pair likes their hand after a KKK flop, not just 10s+.

    Don't you think?

    Looks standard.
    Don't raise the river.

He did, K9. I figured I was beat when he called my turn bet. He hesitated on the flop call, but the turn was an insta call. I know using the response time isn't perfect, but few players at $5 are smart enough to use that to their advantage. That's something I need to work into my game.

I like that. My reads on betting patterns have improved drastically over the last couple months, thanks guys.

This is what I was hoping for on the flop. I was not afraid of AA, QQ, JJ, but with 5 limpers it's very possible someone had Kx. With bigger blinds I play the same as you (and in my situation go bust). The problem with 22 is the overcards on the turn (and possibly river). Had a JQKA fallen on the turn I would have checked behind on the turn and folded to a river bet >150. I've had recent success playing extremely tight/weak until the blinds reach 100 (or even later if I was lucky enough to double up).

Raise TT in position here even though it's early. Just make it between 120-140 to go for isolation. Position is powerful, so use it. EP and MP I might limp for set value as well, but not in the cutoff with semi isolation already granted. That's a weak move. I might limp here if the table was loose and isolation was mute. As played post flop I like it. Lower pocket is the villain read.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?

Looks like pair over pair, so you're beat by AA,QQ,JJ,Kx and beat 99-. It's going to be painful for BB to be holding smaller pair, but I think you gotta figure the odds are on your side.

It's the river bet that makes me nervous - looks like extraction of that last bit of money, hoping you'll reraise. But by that point you pretty much have to call and if he has the K then you were dead the whole time.
Note: new guy and very open to constructive criticism, so go ahead and weigh in! I'm here to learn.

That is true and a good point, however the difference here is the betting pattern. I am not sure that someone with a small pocket pair would check/call on that flop. I think they would either bet out or at least check raise to prevent you from pairing up your hand to beat them.

For example (time for a thread hijack), I played the following hand last night:

Stage #326369799 Tourney ID 452916 Holdem Single Tournament No Limit $50 - 2006-02-14 22:28:30 (ET)
Table: 5834277 (Real Money) Seat #1 is the dealer
    Seat 1 - SM4147 ($4010 in chips)
    Seat 2 - GATORJERRYH ($2875 in chips)
    Seat 3 - GOHAN66 ($3002.50 in chips)
    Seat 5 - CV62 ($667.50 in chips)
Seat 6 - SB STUDLY ($1895 in chips)
    Seat 7 - LITTLEKING69 ($1050 in chips)
GATORJERRYH - Posts small blind $50
    GOHAN66 - Posts big blind $100
    *** POCKET CARDS ***
    Dealt to GATORJERRYH [4h 4s]
    CV62 - Folds
    SB STUDLY - Folds
    LITTLEKING69 - Folds
    SM4147 - Folds
    GATORJERRYH - Raises $350 to $400
    GOHAN66 - Calls $300
    *** FLOP *** [5c Kc Ks]
    GATORJERRYH - Bets $800
    GOHAN66 - Folds
    GATORJERRYH - returned ($800) : not called
    *** SHOW DOWN ***
    GATORJERRYH - Does not show
GATORJERRYH Collects $800 from main pot

I certainly wasn't worried about him having a K, but wanted to take down the pot before he could match something up. If I checked there was a possibility he would check behind me. Now, there are 9 cards that would nullify my hand (if you assume he doesn't have a pocket pair).
