Default Thoughts on big losing streak please

I've also posted this on another forum as I would like thoughts into this. Maybe I'm being paranoid I don't know but my game sucks at the moment.

At the beginning of the year I was feeling pretty good about my game.

In December I'd taken 1st place in 3 tournaments.

A $30 MTT on UB, a $50 MTT on Pokerstars and the 180 man SNG on PokerStars.

I was on a bit of high and then the first week of Jan I took my biggest yet by winning the $100 MTT on UB.

Since then I must have played over 30 MTT's with nearly half of them being the $100 MTT on UB and the others being mainy $20 and $30 MTT's and haven't even made ITM in any of them

I dont know what to say really. Sometimes I think maybe I aren't as good player as I thought I was and that maybe I've become over confident in my play and not sticking to the game that got me them victories in the first place.

Then I think it's just a phase and that a bad player simply can't win 4 MTT's in 2 months or is that a wrong thought?

Can a player just have a lucky streak?

Yes a player can have a lucky streak, but it takes more than luck to pull off a few wins. I would stick to some low buy-ins and analyze your play. Post some HH's that you find difficult. You might have said the answer in your post:

"Sometimes I think maybe I aren't as good player as I thought I was and that maybe I've become over confident in my play and not sticking to the game that got me them victories in the first place. "

    Thanks.

I think I should start analysing my HH when I get knocked out and try and find the leaks in my game at the moment.

    It's just variance probably;

    Yesterday I won a 30$ R&A for 3.6K. The 46 MTT's before that I only got ITM twice, which meant 650$ at a 3.2K investment..

How big is your sample size and what's your ROI so far?

That's a start, but sometimes you make the right play and you lose anyways. Don't get down on yourself and remember that everyone goes through a dry spell here and there. For example, I donked off about $100 last night and didn't make it ITM out of 4 180 man and a $20 MTT. Make sure that you have the br to sustain losses, because when you feel tight for cash you won't play up to the ability that you should be and the loses will ware on ya.

Some of the best players on the net have suffered similar streaks. I know of at least one ranked player who has played nearly every night this year and is in the red for both Jan and Feb.

Losing streaks don't mean you're playing badly, but playing badly will almost always put/keep you on a losing streak. Do as everyone else has recommended: analyze your game continually and make sure it's up to par. If you need it, take a break for a while and regroup.

Good point. This has helped me countless times. You may be on tilt and becoming impatient. Clear your head of bad beats and forget about poker for a couple of days.

Going through a downswing now, too.

    December; +4 K
    January; +10 K
    February; -700

    It happens.

    Default hmm

one thing ive found very interesting is that when im winning, i win with regularity and the game almost seems too easy. When im losing i keep losing and it seems like just a streak of bad beats, but i know that on some level its my play not the cards that is causing the losses.

and no matter how much i know intellectually about how to play 'good' poker somehow when im losing all the knowledge in the world doesnt help. The only thing that really helps me is taking time off and coming back in a different emotional state.

I've been on a downturn myself lately.

I've noticed a few bad plays on my behalf but often you can do everything right and still get knocked out. I've been knocked out of a lot of tourneys recently with people making calls they shouldnt and hitting one of their 3 outs.

Just make sure you are playing within your bankroll and things will turn around.
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall,
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
    Has given you the call.

Not just 4 FTs, but 4 wins in ~50 tournies. Sounds pretty damn good to me. Just sounds like variance is catching up to you.
TheXianti: (Triptanes) why are you not a thinking person?
