Default Is "good poker" ALWAYS "good poker"?

I play almost exclusively SNGs with 90% them being single tables. I made a HUGE mistake about 4 months ago and withdrew my BR because I was tilting and vowed to quit. Anyway, my BR is now so low that I am limited to micro stakes SNGs. At these tables there are people that will literally show down with any two cards. I'm to the point where my "game" at these micro stakes bears little resemblence to my game when I play live at a bit higher stakes.

My question is this: Do you adjust your game based on your opponents just to try to win money or do you play your solid game in a sea of fish and face all the suckouts? When I play ultra-rock tight, I have a high win rate. When I loosen up, even a little, my profits go down the drain. Thoughts?

Don't change your game for the stakes. Suckouts increase at lower stakes but just play tight and let the donks kill each other. A solid game is a solid game and you'll come out ahead in the long run.

I completely disagree with this...the way you play a lot of hands is going to depend on the level you're playing at.

That said, the lower you go the more you need to play basic, ABC poker.

This is exactly why you should change your game depending on the stakes. This is the best strategy at the micro-limits, but in a high stakes SNG against good players, you would get eaten alive if you used this strategy.

You should play a strategy that is right for the type of table you are at. On average, we can make assumptions tho, for example, low stakes games are loaded with limpers, and people who raise KQs from utg, etc. These types of games have a higher EV to play uber tight. OTOH, if you ever watch a $215, you'll notice a ton folding on the early levels, and there is a tremendous amount of EV you can capture if you know how to play poker in this period.

Anyway, I think the point, which you already know the answer to, is to play one of two ways.

    1) Play in a manner which maximizes your EV (In case you don't know what EV is: What is EV?)

    2) Play in a manner that makes the game fun for you, whether you win or not.

When I play ultra-rock tight, I have a high win rate.
If you enjoy winning, then this looks like a good strategy for you.

Agreed. My comment was directed at playing micro-limit tables.

Well, actually I'd enjoy getting my BR back up so I don't have to pull my hair out playing these morons but...baby steps. Unfortunately at this point, I don't play poker, I gamble with the fish.

Thanks for the input, I needed it.
