A few AA hands at 25NL...

I played today at 4 Party tables for a little over an hour. Would appreciate some feedback over these hands...

Flop: ($8.10) 7, Q, 5 (2 players)
Hero bets $4, Button raises $18.15 (All-In), Hero calls $14.15.

I called quickly because I thought he was pushing TP and I was getting 2 to 1 odds. We also weren't that deep. However, a set could easily make this play as well, so should I have thought twice before playing for stacks?

Villian seemed like the typical loose/passive and when he suddenly woke up on the turn I thought I was in trouble. I remember the days when I could never get away from aces, but I've been trying to improve that part of my game greatly. The jack on the turn wasn't super scary, but I smelled a rat and folded.

Id raise a little more preflop on the first hand... maybe $4 or even $4.50. I usually go for around 3x original raise. Apart from that i like hand 1 and 3. Hand 3 is a nothing pot and given your read it just isnt worth it.


Hand 2 is tough. Any bet might as well be a push with those pot/stack sizes. I might just push too and hope he has the J or the draw... I suppose you could check behind and see what he does but it isnt a very nice board. If you do check behind you will probably have to call a fairly large river bet anyway because of the added incentive to bluff.

hand 1, i think you gotta call here. kk/qq are gonna be very common, aq sometimes. even knowing he's 11/5, kk and the random aq or jj or whatever is still way too common to fold. also I'd reraise more preflop.

hand 2, this hand is tough with the big pot, but you have to check behind here especially since you have position. He check/called the flop on a drawless board. hope he bets weak on the river and you can call it. if he pushes on the river i think you can confidently fold, unless you know he's an idiot.

hand 3, this is good. i might call this down sometimes, but you'd need to know the other guy is a toolbag.

Hand #1:

The pot's $8.10 before the flop, there's too much in there already to worry about miracle suckouts, your play was good.


Hand #2:

Nothing wrong with your play, UTG played it well, you can't check the turn in that situation, you'd be giving hands like KJ or a heart draw a free card. If you bet, you gotta bet at least 1/2 the pot ($9) leaving him with only $7, so you might as well go ahead and put him all-in.

If he CRs you AI on the flop and it's $18 to call, I might give him creidit for a set and fold, depending on my read. The way he played it, I can't see a reasonable way to get away from AA.


Hand #3:

He probably would've shown you KJ or QT. I would've lost a little more, if I have position and a srtaight comes on the turn I'll usually bet the pot then check the river. I do this because there are alot of hands like KQ, KT, QJ and JT that will have 9 outs and I want them to fold. Either way fold when raised. Good fold!

I thought about checking behind on the turn immediately after the hand, but during the heat of battle I guess I lost focus. The size of the pot on the turn was now larger than his stack and I've been in plenty of situations before where I had a big pair and thought: "well, he's got a short stack now; put him to the test and be done with it" but one-dimensional thinking like that can be poisonous.

Anyway, had I checked, I don't know how big a bet I would call on the river. Obviously if he would check I would check behind and see his hand for free (making a mental note on his play of course). Or would a value bet be in order? (Trying to get a call from Jx etc.) If he would bet meekly I'd call him in a second. I would fold to a push, and if an ace had come, I'd stack him. I guess you can't underestimate the power of a free card in a large pot, so I'll remember "checking behind" as a possible play for future situations such as this.

I like all, except #2 don't go crazy on the turn, bet liek 5 or 7 and see if he CR you, if he just calls check the river behind him if he checks, fold to an AI.
