Default Pot bets and C bets

Can anyone explain the difference while explaining the probable strength of your opponent when u are faced with these two types of betting. C bets are normally half the pot, and pot bets are for what ? Why do people bet the pot (psychological reason?) If you could explain with a HH that would be fantastic.

A c-bet just denotes a bet after the flop from an initial pre-flop raiser. For instance, you lead out 3x BB and get a caller. Then you lead the flop whether you hit it or not. The point is to represent the flop in the event you missed, or value bet in the event you hit top pair, etc. A pot bet is just a bet that is the size of the pot. Strength of opps hand when facing these bets is mostly read reliant. Each person does different things after the flop. A bet can be a pot bet (pot-sized bet) AND a c-bet. Hope this helps.
There's three types of people in the world...those who can count, and those who can't.

i like betting the pot when i have a good hand on a scary boatd (like AA on JJt) because if i get raised it usually means they can beat me.

And if they smooth call a pot size bet? What will you do on the turn .. If its not such a scary board? And what will you do on the turn if it four flushes ?

i guess any kind of bet on the flop from the pf raiser is a 'conitinuation' of pf action and as such a c-bet. generally, however, a c-bet refers to a bet by the pf raiser when he has missed the flop. there's really no size qualification for c-bets, a pot sized bet may or may not be a c-bet. what i'm saying is its just terminology, but this is the way most have arbitrarily decided to use it.

Below is an example of when I have used a pot sized bet. With that many people in the hand I wanted to make sure that anyone who saw a turn card paid dearly for it.

    Feel free to critique it.

    Absolute Poker
    No Limit Holdem Tournament
    Blinds: t15/t30
    8 players
    Converter

    Stack sizes:
    UTG: t1360
    UTG+1: t1430
    MP1: t1410
    MP2: t1600
    CO: t2840
    Hero: t1435
    SB: t2305
    BB: t1120

    Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is Button with 7 7
UTG calls t30, UTG+1 folds, MP1 raises to t60, MP2 calls t60, CO folds, Hero calls t60, SB calls t45, BB calls t30, UTG calls t30.

    Flop: 7 T 6 (t360, 6 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, MP1 bets t60, MP2 calls t60, Hero raises to t480, 4 folds, MP2 calls t420.

    Turn: 2 (t1380, 2 players)
    MP2 is all-in t1060, Hero calls all-in t895.
Uncalled bets: t165 returned to MP2.

    River: J (t3170, 0 player + 2 all-in - Main pot: t3170)

    Results:
    Final pot: t3170
    Hero Shows 7d 7s
    MP2 Shows 6c 9c

What if the board is straight/flushy looking.. And you have top pair top kicker, c bet or pot size?

This is where you are missing the point. You need to keep in mind that a continuation bet is designed for when the flop misses your hand, but you think it may have also missed your opponents hand. You put out a continuation bet because a) you took the lead in pre-flop betting and b) you hope to win the pot right there.

A pot sized bet should be used when you have a hand and want to take down the pot right there for various reasons or give your opponent an opportunity to make an unprofitable call. These reasons vary however.

For example, if you have TPTK and the only other player remaining is weak/tight you can get away with a smaller bet because he will run away to any other bet and will only raise when he is ahead in the hand.

However, with the same situation against a loose/aggressive player you want to put in a pot sized bet to put pressure on them and not give them cheap cards that may outdraw your hand.
