    Default Stars' 180-man Questions

How much larger of a BR does one need if they intend to only play the Stars' 180-man SNG's? I assume it needs to be larger but how much larger? Does it need to be 2x a normal SNG BR? How often can an average to decent player expect to win one of these, or even make like top 5? I've seen many people in the Winner's Circle thread posting multiple 1st's and 2nd's in these within the same week, sometimes even the same day. Are they extremely good players or is it that they play a very large number of these? OK I'll stop badgering everyone now lol. Thanks for any replies.

Here's how I look at it mathematically.

On average at the very least, you should finish in the top 5 2.77% of the time (5/180*100%). I think they pay the top 18, right? In that case, the average person will finish ITM 10% of the time. I would guess a decent player could finish ITM 15-20% of the time with an ROI of 20%.

I think it'd be safe to have 100 buy-ins for this.

I agree. I would just treat this as MTT standard and go with the BR "rules" for that.

Honestly I dont really think they are worth it... My buddy took one down a couple of days ago took him 4+ hours for 1 grand... This is a big field to go through With not the best chance of hitting top 5 which is only where the money is... none of the other spots are worth it... You understandw hat I am saying?
    I am that fish...

    currently broke as a joke...

100 is plenty. 75 is probably OK since the fields are so small.

4x180 or 20x180? Those 4's are looking pretty interesting. Too bad they close @ 5pm.

I'd be playing the $4's if I started playing them.

I place ITM about 1 out of every 5, and when I don't, it comes real close (22nd a few times, up to 30th). I think the biggest problem is anxiety against the bigger stacks, or going in with the mindset of "I want to place in the money."

When you're fighting to place ITM, you're struggling to make plays that should otherwise come naturally to you. You're sitting at 17/25 left, and going "I need to steal a pot to stay at 17, let me look around, see how everyone else is moving up and down...oh no I'm in 19th! I'm never going to get this $43!" Perhaps not you exactly, but it's happened enough to me, and I kick myself every time (I'm getting better though, I swear ).

Just play solid poker. Don't assume you have reads on everyone right when you sit down. Don't let people in your room influence your choices. Just play the best you can, and assume most of the people know what they're doing. A LOT of the players in the 180 $20+2 are donks. More than a half at least. People thinking they can steal a pot with Q5 with nothing anywhere close to hitting, and other miracles of life that make me wish I was in every pot that they are. Just don't fall into the trap of joining every pot with them, otherwise you're playing their game, not poker.

If you keep a level head, and your goal becomes "I want to win this," then I think your chances of placing at least in the money are fairly good. As far as BR...I do these with (don't yell at me) about $200 in my account while I sit at ring games to build the buffer back up. The $22 doesn't phase me much at that point, and it's not hard to make back fairly quickly, but the reward:time is pretty good once you make final table.

(to give you an idea, I've played maybe 10 or 11 of these, finished 1st, 4th, and somewhere in the 10-18 range, and I don't consider myself a 'great' poker player by any measure yet).

If you have placed 1st in the 180 man tourney, you would have a bankroll over 1000, not 200. Something seems fishy?

Sorry I didn't include my life story with this one

Won the $1080, sat at a table, up another $400, cashed out 800, lost 400...a bit clearer? (over the course of 4 days)

read BR mgmt thread, that is spooky, unless you're rich.
