Playing a 3 table $2 SnG atm and just got this hand right before the break...

Basically I haven't got much all tourney and we are down to the final 12 right before this hand with me in 12th spot...

Did I play this right? could I have got more chips by betting 400 on the flop? At the time I was worried they would all fold out if I made a strong bet and given my stack size anything bigger then 200 and I'd be all in on the flop and not extract as much right?

Just looking for tips as I try to improve...

Yeah, you might want to consider a little more on the flop. Betting 200 into a 600 pot leaves someone chasing the flush with the correct odds to chase. Plus, if the first person calls, the next player is getting 5:1 to stay in.

However, as played, you have put 800 in the pot and only have 720 left behind, you might as well get the rest in on the river, rather than leaving yourself with 120 chips.

As to my river bet at the time I was thinking he had a draw, that missed, and since he called all this way had he made a pair along the way that he might call my river bet... but to make myself look weaker (as I did all hand trying to extract money) I would bet 600 (notice the 200,400,600) in hopes of enducing a call from a bad hand. Make him think I had overs that missed or that I was on a flush draw that also missed on the river...

The whole goal once I floped that straight was to try and extract some money from the hand to move up in the tourney (12th to 5th with 12 left at the break) if I busted to a better hand (boat or flush) so be it...

problem is, when you bet most of your chips with a very small stack, it actually looks stronger, like you want a call. Often, jamming your chips in looks like you are weaker - almost like a last ditch attempt to steal the pot.

I see what your saying... although I was also in mid position with checks to me each time and I was playin the clock.

Not sure an all in would have got me more chips given the situation...

Although I would have to agree after considering it in the long run an all in here would probably get at least 1 caller and make me more money over time...

I just meant that you are ok with the two bets so far, but you might as well jam it in on the turn. If he will call 600, he will call 720. If he is folding, he is folding if you make any type of bet.
