    Default Thoughts from last night

Well as I have been saying lately, I have been really confident in my game and exoecting a big win.

Last night was my opportunity.... and it almost came through.

I got 3rd in the $80 k guaranteed $30 rebuy on Dise. It is my best finish in that tourney, but I am disappointed I didn't win it or at least get second (even second would have given me my first 5 figure payout, which is one of my goals for this year).

I am still processing exactly what happened - will probably take a couple of days off from poker to just let things settle.

But at this point, my main feelings is that once I got down to the late stages it was a lot more about luck and patience than anything else. Luck to have your AKs or pps hold up and/or luck to get a monster against another monster. And patience to just wait for others to tilt and knock themselves out.

I had a couple of huge hands where I may have failed to maximize my bets, a couple of hands where I got sucked out on big time, and a couple of 55/45%s that went both ways... as well as one hand where I actually sucked out big time (my AK cracked AA all-in preflop on the FT).

Here are the two most meaningful losing hands to me.

I should have bet out on the flop, but checked thinking he would bet and I'd checkraise him.

From that point on it became a game of DRY picking up tons of blinds because muraw was a big tightwad and chef cafe and I just became timid and waited for others to get knocked out.

The funny thing was KK got cracked by A7 three times and A9 once during this period.

    And then this:

That put me out to push/fold. The funny thing was cafeman than disconnected after this hand. I am almost positive he purposely disconencted himself just to walk home with 2nd place. I then got all-in with A6 and lost to DRY with some crap like 5T and thecafeman STAYED disconnected. DRY won the tourney simply by minraising every hand after that and taking down the blinds.

    What a waste.

3rd out of 963. A little less than $7k. But oh so close to almost $20k.

AT is way ahead of whatever the button is raising in the first hand, you should reraise! dont let people mess with you on blind.

also, i think you check the river with AT. only a few hands are out there that will give you value, and you might catch a bluff from someone with a high heart that called the turn with their draw.

I agree with Gabe, reraise preflop...and lead out flop, you are chip leader with a really good hand...put him to the test early...having said that, congrats on the 3rd place.

I am ok with my call there. Table was very tight once we got down to 5 (I didn't take advantage of this as much as I should have). I was also outplaying everyone post-flop.... but I like a preflop reraise there as well (especially since all of my other shown reraises were AK).

I definitely needed to lead that flop.

As far as the river... yeah, maybe a check was good.

Like I said, I am going to analyze my HH these next couple of days. I know I missed a lot of opportunities by tightening up too much late... and I have to admit that it was because the money difference between 5th and 2nd was big.

Also still just a little upset that one last 57/43 didn't go in my favor. That last hand was a $4k to $12k hand (depending on whether I woulda got 2nd or 1st).

I told ya it would come around. Nice 3rd place finish! 5 handed with AT in the bb, you have a monster. I like the reraise like gabe said. You have to bet the flop in that situation. The JJ hand nothing you could do. Although, why didn't he push pre-flop with AQ? I would have thought that he had something better than my J's and wants action, but can you really fold in that situation or just call? I don't know. You have to play for 1st, right?

No, but it's for big finishes. So, stick it up there. Show off a little.

outplay people preflop when the blinds are big. be aggressive, you are on FT bubble and people are playing scared.

I'm not on the FT bubble - I'm at the FT here.

I agree AT is a big hand. It is a good hand to reraise there.

Then again, AT is not a GREAT hand. It is very possible that I am up against AJ or AQ, if I reraise and get rereraised it would then be hard to lay down with all that money in the pot and the odds I would be getting. I also had only made any postflop plays against this opp and the cafe guy. I didn't want him to "take his stand" back at me when I was just holding AT.

I agree that just calling might have been a little weak/tight.

I hate the call with AT. If villian is tight, fold. If he's stealing (or likely stealing) re-raise.
ATs... I hate the call less.

If he had AJ instead of A4 would the hand even bother you?

Cafeman probably jumped for joy and broke his cable modem after he semi-sucked out on you.

I tournamentreporter.commed cafeman yesterday. He is generally a freeroll or $1 tourney guy. I really think once he won that hand, he just disconencted himself to make sure that he could limp his way to second. Maybe he thought it would take a little longer to wipe me out than 2 hands.

I am still not as upset about calling with AT as I am about not betting the flop.

Yup - his only ITMs previously had been in $1 and $5 tourneys. His previous biggest win had been $30, which he won a lot - so I am thinking maybe Dise has a satellite to get into their nightly rebuy, which he won, and then he mustve run really well early. Dunno. He played again last night and made the money I saw. Perhaps a diamond in the rough?

just seems kind of weird 1$ tourny player would even play a 30$ rebuy tourney? then he gets second place...
