This isn't of much use if there is no read for calling a river AI on Ace high.

I guess the rationale is he put him on overs so the 7 and 6 were no help. All of the nines were no help. Either he wins this vs king/queen/jack high or loses it to a low PP/Ace higher kicker, but hard to process all of that with no read.
    pulling a courtiebee pŏŏl-ĭng ā kôrt-ē-bē (verb phrase):
    1. overvaluing mid pocket pairs
    2. knowing you should fold, but donkishly calling or raising anyway

    .
exactly why risk becoming a short stack on this huge over bet without a read, for all you know he may have a small PP or AQ/AJ/AT etc you only beat a complete bluff here or someone pushing his KQ/KJ. This is a good play if you have reads on the guy, but I wouldnt risk 2/3 of my chipstack on a call without reads..anyway I guess you won the hand so congrats on the call

You are going to feel dumb when he shows A8 and outkicks you.

The more I think about it, there is merit to making this thin call here.

Scuba... could you explain your thinking?

I don't see how I call that amount there... sure it looks like an extreme overbet, but there are just too many ways to lose. I suppose I wonder what reads opp had on our hero, but even if he knows that a preflop raise means an ace, he'd be a fool to push without having hit the flop in that situation.

I am pretty sure I lay that down.

Why would a pair check/check the flop and turn? Why does he call the turn? (A second club comes, you have the nut club draw) And why a vast overbet on the river? Does a 6 or 7 play it like that? PP? I don't think so. All I can see is 8x, or a missed club draw.

Villain flips over K5c and the other guy scoops.
