Obviously in this case it paid out, but in the long run is this a good play? or am I better of making a smaller bet and trying to extract chips here?

Given the blinds and your stack size you're in push/fold mode so both of these are standard. Screw extracting value...you want to either steal the pot or have someone double you up.

I like the play almost as much as I like Warpe's avatar. I love when I go for a steal, then the next hand wake up with a monster. I would have most likely done the same thing, it frustrates people into calling. Who knows, they might have laid down 88 if you hadn't done that prior. AI usually means weakness. If you had only raised it to 800 or so here, he might have folded.

I always make my steals and my raises with solid hands look about the same. It makes you difficult to predict. I think this is pretty standard, though I would be more conservative with my steals and not throw it all in just yet.
