    Default River Line

My opponent plays lots of hands (40% VP$IP), likes to min-raise and bet $5 into raised pots when he has something and slow plays his monsters. I donated to him last week when I over-played a hand via misreading him. Unsure what his flop calling standard is, fairly often he folds to my c-bet. Today he's been cold-calling my raises quite a bit.

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

    MP3 ($15.85)
    Fnord ($95.20)
    Button ($142.35)
    SB ($31.25)
    BB ($115.80)
    UTG ($79.95)
    UTG+1 ($130.60)
    MP1 ($146.35)
    MP2 ($42.05)

Preflop: Fnord is CO with K, A.
    2 folds, MP1 calls $1, 1 fold, MP3 calls $1, Fnord raises to $5, Button calls $5, 2 folds, MP1 folds, MP3 folds.

    Flop: ($13.50) Q, Q, J (2 players)
Fnord bets $9, Button calls $9.

    Turn: ($31.50) T (2 players)
Fnord bets $20, Button calls $20.

    River: ($71.50) A (2 players)

Check call a reasonable bet that doesn't seem like a boat. Kinda vague, i know, but your hand is not enviable here, and you just gotta go on some sort of read.

If he knows you cbet with any kind of frequency, I can see him calling with just about anything to try and push you off the hand later. What bothers me is that he doesn't try and float and buy the turn. I block bet the river and price it myself. $35 sounds about right. I think he bets hard at any check you make on this river and takes it down.

I think he's planning to raise your river bet if you make one so I'm not so sure about that. It looks alot like he has a Q and its a good board for catching your kicker. I say check call.

This is a gross gross board. I just want to get out here. Unless your read gives you absolutely no respect for this guy. But all I see is he called your 5xBB preflop, smooths calls every bet of yours following (slowplays his monsters does he?) What would he play like this that you actually have beat here? I think long shot best case scenario is you splitting the pot with him. I agree with Irisheyes, if you HAVE to see it then yeah check/call but personally I would want out...

If he does this, it's either a new trick for him or he's feeling frisky. Not his usual pattern. This guy likes to make/show hands.

Define quite a bit then. I would take that as be often, or more then 50% of the time. With this new info, it changes my line of thinking. Check/call the river.

The last 2-3 other times I raised his fold button didn't work pre-flop.

Check call the river. Take more notes.

    Good example hand.
You do have a read, so - how much is he likely to bet on the river with his possibly better hand. You say he's been smooth-calling you preflop 2-3 other times...how was his behavior in those cases?

So the question is, how much is an appropriate blocking bet on the river to not pot-commit you, and not making calling the standard minraise too expensive?
Or will he bet reasonably with a made hand of some sort (possible split pot) if you check the river?

As9s or worse seems out of the question for the flush. I would like to check call this board, depending on the size of a river bet. A full-house isn't out of the question, I can see AQ being a strong possibility if he slowplays monsters.

I'd agree, check-calling the river (within a decent amount, of course) is probably the best line here... I'm more worried about queens full than the flush. Regardless, this hand would scare the crap out of me, I'd try to get away from it if he goes for the stack.

My guess would be he has AQ so after the river you're dead. Check/Fold for me.. or check/call a not too large raise if you're too curious

You must play like a total maniac for him to even consider calling the turn.
