Default PS 180 4.40 SNGs any suggestions?

I tried like 4 of these today, and the closest I got was like 44th place. How do you fend your way to the top with people who will call any raise with any crap, and just make bad plays over all. I mean I know the variance is high for this format but I would still like to give them a go.

For example this happened in that tournament, I know it's a bad beat but still I am more focused on his thought process and why he made the play he made:

Easy. He got married to his hand and was gonna go in with it regardless how dangerous the flop was. Maybe he didn't believe you had an Ace either.

If that's what the big stacks do in these I'll have to give this a go sometime, hehe.

just keep putting it in when your the favorite and you'll find a FT sooner or later. I tried out one of these, so fishy. Had around 10-12 BB's and got preflop AI calls from QT and K8.

you flop a 3 outer and whine?

What hand did YOU put him on to call them off? You're just as married to your hand.

Surprisingly, it's easier to beat people who are bad.

You should be pushing a lot in this tourney. If not, then you're doing something wrong.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?

Earlier he was constantly coming over the top of everyone with marginal hands, and close to nothing. He was a very loose player who was getting very lucky flops.

A friend told me about these, yet all I've seen is the 20+2's. I don't see them under SNG > MT > Low. Am I missing something? :\

I agree. I played one of them for shits and giggles. I overplayed my hands and didn't have a lack of people willing to call me.

They are under Tourney for sure, i think they are in SNG > MTT > All too.

With regards to tips to play them - bluff less than you would normally, bet more on your big hands. Don't be surprised at some HORRIBLE moves.

Back on topic, these trnys can be very frustrating !

Generally u can get hands paid off but if u dont get any nice hands then you are really struggling because there's a fair few calling stations and some always end up big stacked due to suckouts.

I might be influenced by how cold decked i was in the one i just played tho hehe, just checked, the last 80 hands i didnt pick up 77+, AQ+, KQ once, and ended up in 29th, big stack pushed over my raise and showed AK, then 2 hands later i pushed over his minraise and he called with AK again lol.

Are you guys sure they are between 12 am and whenever? Even during the weekdays?

Because I am for certain I checked last night around that time and didn't see them (maybe I was even more tired than I thought oh well)

But I feel your pain nick, because that's exactly what happened to me in 4 of these. I had cold cards and the big stacks didn't obtain their stacks through solid play but simply calling people's all in and sucking out.

It was like a bad movie or somethin of the sort like that movie Honey or anything with sarah jessica parker in it

    Sit N Go's > Multi Table > All.

Played 1 tonight. my TPTK got outdrawn by someone calling my push with an ace

Don't know if i will play another... you win more for 1st in a 1 table $22 than you do for getting 3rd in these.

I know the stake is much higher, but a 180 man tourney is a good 4 hrs play... for bugger all.

I think they are good if you want to play lots of low limit MTTs but aren't rolled for the $20 180 man trnys. I'd like to have a real go at them but unfortunately i'm not even rlled for these with my stars br so have to just play one now and then while i'm grinding it out at the $5 SnGs

I played several of these and have not faired too well. Over half of the field will be gone before the first hour. One thing, I learned the hard way, done go allin with these idiots early. I out suxout on twice and busted out after being the big stack. There is a lot of fishy play in these mtts.
I take a look at the lobby every so often and 20-30% of the field is gone within the first 15 minutes!

Good solid poker is the way to go in these.

When i play MTTs on stars i play up to $5 buyin, and at least half the field going in the first hour happens more often than not.

I played my first one last night and made my first final table in ages.

As always you just have to be in the right place at the right time, I limped in T9s from later position after 3 limpers. Flopped a flush, and doubled up on the turn against someone with a mere top pair.

Then I doubled up again with 77 hitting a set and doubling up again completely off someone with middle pair...

Got to 8000 chips at level 75/150 and just coasted from there, didnt take any risks but didnt bully too much.

Then sometime later I had AA against A9, big raise preflop and he called push on a 678 board. Doubled up again.

Cruised to final table, sitting in about 8th in chips the whole way, the blinds were big by now. Smallest stack was to my right, he pushed from the button when folded to him in one orbit, then pushed again when folded to him the next orbit. So Im in the BB and hes in SB, folded to him, he pushes, I call with AT and his A8s catches a flush.
So I got 9th without ever having to take a major risk.

Looking back at it, I was very lucky that every time I went all in I had by far the better hand, and my opponent always had me outchipped so I doubled up completely.

So yea, lots of idiots, but you still need to be in the right place at the right time.

heh I mean you can say that about any tourny though, I simply can't do those 4.40 any more, just wayy too fishy.

I played one of these for the first time today and took 4th place. Lots of luck was involved, since I was badly shortstacked just before the first break but somehow quadrupled up with 66 when three opponents all managed to miss all of their overcards. Then I limped in with KTs on the button when a few others had limped, flop came QTT or something and I doubled up off the big stack who had limped AA. And somewhere along the line I doubled up with AQ on a Qxx board against KQ, which was nice.

After that didn't play too many hands except to occasionally steal the blinds as it got close to the bubble (everyone suddenly got incredibly tight when about 24 players remained). Then when we got in the money, everyone just started going all-in repeatedly so it was easy to sit back and reach the final table.

Good fun, but I wouldn't be saying that if I'd busted out in the first hour.

Don't get frustrated with suckouts Shysti....variance will be high, but you will win more in the long run against opponents who suck. I have played a couple of these and hit some bad beats, but these are way easier to make money in then the $20 tourneys. These are great experience for other MTTs.
  38. #38
Shysti; I agree with dj; I have played about six of them and the best finish for me was 42 and 36. Each time I bustout, i saw where I could have done something different than I did. They are very frustrating when you spend all the time, energy and bankroll to come up just short. But, I will continue to play them and soon I will be pay off.
I think that they are a great addition to the Stars lineup of events. Instead of playing the 1,2, or 3 dollar MTT with several thousand knuckleheads that you have to wade through, just get in one of these and you will get hours of experience and possibly stack your roll.
Once again, patience is the key.

Thanks for the advice fellows. I think my biggest flaw is getting upset over the amount of beats I take online, coming from live play, I guess I am just not used to it yet.

But I am working on it.
  40. #40
I think what I will do is deposit $440.00 (100 buyin) and give it a go at these head on! Sort of a case study if you will of how well I can do. I'll finally get poker tracker too so I can keep track of my stats.
  41. #41
    Shysti,

I played in three of them Saturday evening and I would have to say that you MUST control that which you can control, which is your emotions. You WILL have bad beats, get drawn out on, etc. by players who have no business whatsoever in the hand. And boy will it send you on tilt. My finish in so far had gotten me to 36th and 32nd place. On the latter, I played great for a while, with me being the chip leader at one point. Losing some coin flips and a few beats finished me off. Overall, I would say that patience is the key in these things. Your opponents will screw up at some point, and when they do, punish them. Wish you the best.

Yeah, you're getting way too attached to top pair. I could see if it was Kxx all clubs and you had the Ac, but I think I could find a better spot to double up than this, looking at AT, TT, or in this case, suited connectors.

played one of these earlier today whilst waiting for UB to cash out, finished 3rd with one major suckout but was the only time i put my chips in when behind and I didnt really take a lot of coin flips either.

Initial impressions are that you can play really tight in these and showing down solid hands will get you a long way.

Playing another one at the moment and the players seem much looser. Just playing Harrigton style I'd think these can be beaten solidly.

I tried another one of these last night and came in 18th. I took 2 horrid beats that literally crippled me in the 1st orbit but came back then in late game.

    Marry Me Cheryl!!!
obviously these are just as destroyable as the 22s.
Call a raise make a hand push it hard. Otherwise steal other peoples missed flops.
Honestly, how hard can it be?

Your problem was joining a $22. Honestly, you have to be able to beat these lower levels before you move up, otherwise you are going to blow your bankroll. If sharkscope is accurate then it seems like you have played a few tournies with buyins of over $50, this just isnt smart and you arent going ot be able to improve until your learn to discipline yourself.

Would of done better but my JJ lost to some dude's 1010 after he hit a set then quads by the river.

I played 2 of these recently, one yesterday, one this morning.

Both times I ended up going out after I was dealt KK, and my opponent had AA.

I was doing ok both times until those incidents.

Might give one of these another go.
