Update for week of the Oct 23rd!

Muxy is running away with it so far, although it HAS only been about 10 games into the season, so no worries ... yet ... Markus Naslund is getting millions of points for him (it still depresses me so much because I could have gotten him but I didn't and now Muxy is kicking my ass). Glen Murray is also doing a great job for Muxy's team, he has 12 points on the season so far. All in all, Muxy's team is killing everyone is pretty much every category ... goals ... assists ... power play points ... even his goalie stats are awesome. The ONLY thing he's not doing great in so far is penalty minutes, his friend Geoff is winning that category. I swear this league is rigged ... lol ...

It's hard to update on other teams because I still have no ideas who's who. Someone enlighten me! Second place right now is held by the team Gods Among Men, he's got one point over Muxy when it comes to goalie wins and goals against average (he's got Manny Legace who's just destroying everyone who plays Detroit so far this year). He's a distant second though ... Muxy has 101.5 points vs Gods Among Men's 70.5 points.

My team's not doing great so far, I only have 58 points. My goals stat is pretty horrible, and my goalie stats are even worse. Theodore is getting me wins, but his GAA and SV% are horrible. Anyone got some good goalie suggestions for me? Rick Nash has been out since the start of the season for me, so that's hurting a lot. Ryan Smyth isn't perfectly healthy right now (and the Oilers have been playing terribly), and Gaborik is sitting out AGAIN ... he came back for a couple of games, but now he's re-injured. So three of my best players are injured, which is probably why my team has hardly any goals so far.

Just some other notable injuries in the league: Sergei Federov (Muxy) is day to day, as is Steve Yzerman (Gods Among Men); Valeri Bure (Gods Among Men), Mats Sundin (Stupid Team), Gary Roberts (Rilla), Keith Tkachuk (lets go kings), and Patrik Elias (lets go kings) are all on IR.

Update for week of Oct. 30! (Happy Halloween)

Suddenly Muxy doesn't seem invincible anymore! Probably due mostly to the Canucks having a bad last couple of games (lost twice in a row to Colorado ), Muxy has dropped in points to 87.5. He's still in first place, but now the second place team (Stupid Team) is only 11.5 points behind. Freekshows rounds off the top three with 71 points.

Who played well this past week? Marleau for Muxy had 7 points including a game winning goal and 3 power play points; Thornton (Rilla) had 6 assists this past week for a total of 7 points; Forsberg did well for The Simon Gagne's; Staal kicked ass this past week for Stupid team with 4 goals and 6 assists, and I'm sure you know about Heatley's crazy 4 goal game which brought him up to 10 points for this past week. A lot of goalies did well in our league, but Lundgvist (NYR) on Gods Among Men was awesome with 2 wins and stats of 1.50 GAA, 0.958 SV%. Man, I need a goalie like that ... Other players racking up 7 or points this week: Spezza (Skate like Andy Holt), Selanne and Kovalchuck (both Freeekshows, although he added Selanne just a couple days ago, so most of them don't count for this week), and Pitkanen (Geoff). Ooh and I just noticed that Timonen got 10 PIMs this week for lets go kings ... haha nice. Goals aren't everything!

Yeah. You'll notice that in the last paragraph, neither Miffed or I had any outstanding players. That's why we are the failures of the FTR fantasy hockey league ...

New injuries? Boston goalie Raycroft is DTD, as is Jersey goalie Brodeur. Gaborik played for like a day and then went back to being injured, so there goes my team's only hope for this week, lol. Runcinsky is also DTD.

Last week I mentioned that my goalie stats are awful, so I went ahead and picked up two new goalies, Alex Auld (just in case Cloutier is injured, still not sure about him) and Manny Fernandez. Fernandez is the Wild's second goalie, I believe he's played the same number of games as Roloson (who's on Rilla's team). Both Minnesota's goalies have great stats. Er ... I didn't drop either of my other goalies, so now I have four goaltenders. Logical, I know. No wonder I'm not winning the league LOL Who should I drop? Only this coming week will tell!

my goalie stats were JUST pulling up the past couple of days, but after today, they're back in the tank. today was brutal. grahame got killed today, lightning ended up losing 6-4. six goals in 28 shots ... there goes the GAA and the SV% fernandez lost too ... 3-0, 23 shots ... I was trying to decide if minnesota would play roloson or fernandez and i guessed that they would play manny and i was RIGHT ... but now i wish i'd been wrong.

i can't post to brag, so this is how i make up for it. haha

Haha yes, I have guy-like hobbies. Hockey he KIND OF understood a little more, but still not really. He didn't follow it and watch it like I did, but at least he didn't think I was wasting my time with it. He plays hockey from time to time, he was in some league during the summer. But not a hockey lover (and it was roller hockey which is clearly inferior to ice, so I don't count it for much haha)

OH and BTW, Rick Nash is off IR!!! WOOHOO! It's about time, I hope he's okay, he needs to start scoring for my team (which moved up to 4th place last night despite my horrible goaltending stats )! I'm extra excited about this because it means he might play on Friday against the Canucks, and I'm going to that game that night! I was so afraid I wouldn't get to see him, he's the only reason to go to a Columbus game. First live game of the season for me (exhibition games don't count), I'm SUPER excited!

Now I just need Gaborik to come back ...

I know what you mean. There are tons and tons of guys who love poker. As for hockey, it isn't big where I live in California but there are tons of guys who love it in other parts of the US and Canada.

luckily it happened during a slight canucks downswing. vancouver's first line has been just awful lately. i went to the game last night and they were just so bad ... not much better tonight either. i'm sure they'll pick it up soon though, and then you'll be back to kicking our asses

Update for week Nov. 6 (I have an accounting assignment due today, can someone do it for me? )

It's been a crazy week for our league, with the standings radically changing. Only 7 points separate fifth from first place, and the past seven days just shows how quickly the tables can turn. The Simon Gagne's are now in first place with 75 points, courtiecanucks (omg my team, do you believe it?) are in second with 72.5 points, and Stupid Team rounds out the top three with 70 points. Somewhat notable is the fact that Geoff's team is only 0.5 behind third place. Muxy, who was in first place last week, has dropped to 6th place. He is only 12 points behind first, however. A couple days could change everything really fast.

Looking at the standings, I think it's interesting to consider why certain people are on top right now. The reason The Simon Gagne's are in first place is because of their goaltending: Joseph for Phoenix (who has two shut outs) and Markkanen for Edmonton are doing a great job for him (Markkanen wasn't doing very well at the beginning of the season, it looks like he's improving). The Simon Gagne's are also on top when it comes to assists and second for PPP. So, his team is on top in certain categories, but doing only mediocre in others. My team, on the other hand, is just slightly above average in most categories, which is enough for second right now. Then again, it's kind of silly to analyze standings this early in the season.

Injuries? I really have to complain about Rick Nash. He was supposed to be back on the third, and he DID play against Calgary that night. Unfortunately for me and Columbus, he got reinjured that day and didn't play against the Canucks the following day (and I had tickets to that game just to see him, too ). So Nash is on IR ... AGAIN. It seems like Gaborik and Nash have been on IR all season (oh wait, they have). Oh well. The season's only a month old, they'll be back eventually. New inuries of note: Robitaille (Muxy) is on IR, as is Leetch (Rilla). I just noticed that The Simon Gagne's have no injuries, which definitely doesn't hurt the rise to the top of the standings.

Who has the team lets go kings? I don't think this person is even playing anymore ... he has two N/A players on his team and he hasn't made a move sinse the season started.

Okay I'm done, I always write more than I expect to (does anyone even read these?).

P.S. I still have four goalies. I don't know which to get rid of.

P.P.S. I got an Alex Auld jersey over the weekend! I had to have it custom made. They told me that it's the only Auld jersey they've ever made.

Update for week Nov. 20 (my bday week, maybe Fantasy will be good to me for once!)

It's been two weeks since I wrote an update post and The Simon Gagne's are still at the top with 79 points. The difference, however, is that my team decided to drop like a stone for a couple days and gave up second place to Geoff's Picks. His team has been lurking around at the top of the standings for a while, I expect it'll be around the top for most of the season. Third place is fairly far away from the top spots and is held by Mindfreeeks right now (I just realized he's a Toronto fan ) with 67.5 points.

The Simon Gagne's are still at the top due to their goal tending, which continues to have amazing stats in both the GAA and SV% categories. If the team's goalies could start racking up a few more wins, they'd be running away with it right now. Geoff's team, on the other hand, is DESTROYING everyone in all places except the goalie categories. He is literally first or second in every single category that is NOT goalie-related. He's actually last in GAA and second to last in SV% ... let's hope it stays that way so that HE doesn't start running away with the top spot. Mindfreeeks is pretty nicely balanced in all stats. My team is sitting in fourth spot right now, and it's doing great in some categories and terribly in others. My team has a grand total of 3 game winning goals, good for last place in our league, and it doesn't look like it's going to improve any time soon, lol. My goalie stats are improving, however (I still have four goalies, but I will be dropping Auld soon since Cloutier is healthy once again), which is encouraging.

INJURIES ... oh injuries ... Yes, it is all about me and my team's injuries. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but Gaborik and Nash are STILL out ... no wonder I don't have any goals. To make matters worse for my team, Kovalev had surgery done and is expected to be out for 8 weeks ... there goes another one of my top scorers. I know that when they are all healthy, my team is going to be killer (well I hope that at least haha), but I wonder if my team will fall too far behind to even catch up by the time that happens? It's early in the season, but precious time is ticking away as these players continue to sit on IR. ANYWAY enough about my team, there are other injuries too (despite what I may think sometimes, lol): Gonchar (The Simon Gagne's) was put on IR just this past Saturday; Robitaille (Muxy) remains on IR, as do Leetch, Rucinsky (Rilla), and Bure (Gods Among Men).

I just noticed that there are A LOT of Detroit players in our league. Is anyone here a Red Wings fan? Gods Among Men has EIGHT Detroit players ... that's crazy! It's putting all your eggs in one basket, but if the Wings go far this year, it might pay off. The rest of us can go ahead and hope that Detroit goes on multiple extended losing streaks mwahahahha

Vancouver just had the most brutal game ever. We always look like idiots when we play Colorado. Alex Auld couldn't stop anything, but jeez, he didn't get ANY help. Ohlund scored on his own net, that's the most useful thing he did all night, too bad it didn't help the Canucks. Our defense was horrible. ARRRGGGHHHH!!!

Anyway, I was gonna write a fantasy update for this week, but I figure I should do it tomorrow when the games for today are in. My team will drop like 3 spots over night after today's game I bet ... thanks to the 6 goals against ... don't even want to imagine what Auld's SV% was tonight. I said I was gonna drop him, why didn't I??????

Update for the week of Dec. 4!

Well no major changes once again, The Simon Gagne's still sit at the top of the league (80 points), with Mindfreeeks' team closely following behind with 79 points. Geoff's team rounds out the top three in a somewhat distant third place with 70.5 points. My lowly team needs some game winning goals if it ever wants to break the top three again, right now it's in 6th place with a somewhat pitiful 64 points.

There's quite a lot of movement of players amongst the top teams in the league. Stupid Team has dropped both Nagy and Lindros over the past few weeks, and both have been picked up by The Simon Gagne's and MapleLeafMindFreeeks respectively. We'll see if they significantly contribute and if Stupid Team will regret dropping them! Interestingly, Geoff picked up Nolan Schaefer, the back up goalie of the Sharks, a couple days ago. We'll see if Schaefer gets enough games in to make this a worthwhile addition.

The BIG news of the past week in the NHL was the trade between Boston and San Jose. Joe Thornton, one of the greatest players in the league right now, was traded to San Jose by Boston for all of Marco Sturm, Wayne Primeau, and Brad Stuart. The big player going to Boston was Stuart (who is on my Fantasy team), but in all honesty, he pales in comparison to Thornton. IMHO, the Sharks won this trade by far, Thornton is truly an amazing player. He was very disappointed to leave Boston, but I'm sure he'll do well in San Jose and hopefully turn the team around a bit (since he's been traded, it's been going well so far). Glenn Murray is on IR right now, but it will be interesting to see how he does when he comes back now that Thornton is no longer there with him. This trade definitely affects Muxy (who has Murray) and Rilla (who has Thornton) the most.

I'm actually still in shock regarding that trade. It's so huge!

I still haven't dropped a goalie, so it's probably my fault I don't have any goals. I just can't bring myself to drop anyone as they're all playing very well on a consistent basis. I'm first in the league when it comes to wins for my goalies; all of them win more than they lose (by far), so it's hard to decide whom to drop. I'll have to drop someone when my players finally come off IR, but I'll probably wait for now. When I do have to drop someone though, it'll probably be (my beloved) Alex Auld just because he won't be playing too many more games when Cloutier comes back (yeah, he's injured again).

Update for week of January 8

Well I think I've dropped as low as I'm going to go in the standings, things can only get better now (9/11 ... at least it's not last I suppose) ... Haha my team is NOT doing well, I still have plenty of injuries; I don't think there's been a time this season when I haven't had at least two guys on IR! Oh well, I think I should become more active and start changing my line up a bit.

The people who are at the top of the standings are the people who have been most active with moving players around. Is it better to drop a player who's going to be injured for a very long period of time, even though he's a premium player? I waited months for Rick Nash to become healthy, are the potential future points worth this wait? What's the best strategy here?

Not much difference at the top of the standings since I last updated, although there's been some shuffling among them. Geoff is leading with 93 points, MindFreeeks is second with 84, and Stupid Team is third with 73.5 points. The Simon Gagne's is still up there in fourth place, although a little behind with 65 points. Goalie stats have slipped for The Simon Gagne's since last time, which is primarily why he isn't at the top anymore.

Crossing my fingers for a better week. Alex Auld needs to start stopping more pucks.

Feb 19: Theodore is expected to miss six to eight weeks after fracturing his right heel bone Thursday at his Montreal home. The Canadiens' goalie suffered the injury walking down the frozen steps of his home following a winter storm. Theodore is 17-15-5 with a 3.46 goals-against average this season.

I guess it's finally time to let him go. I've been hanging on to him all season despite his bad stats and all his lack of shut outs ... I love him. I don't wanna drop him.

Canada has not been playing well in this year's olympics so far. The games that matter are starting today, they will have to pick up the pace or be knocked out. Anything less than gold is pretty much a failure in this country, so they have a long ways to go. We will see starting in 25 min when they take on Russia ...

Brodeur will save the day. That man is a great goalie.

Well 2 weeks to go and its still anybody's game. i won't be able to make any changes from now to the end of the year so i hope no one gets hurt on my team. I got a promotion at work to manage a hotel in another city, so its gonna be awhile till i find a place and get settled, its pretty short notice i just found out yetserday and i go to the new job on Sunday.

Anyways so after i win just hold on to my money i'll come looking for it lol jk, good luck all and see ya on the ice next year.

Haha that looks like this, so don't read it. The point is, mindfreeek kicked all of our asses. When it got closer to the end of the season, it was really between the top three teams, and then the rest of us were playing for fourth (GO ME). Congrats mindfreeeks!

Next year I'd like to get much more active participation. By the time the new year rolled around, there were probably only 5 of us actively watching the games and moving our lineups around. Next year I'd also like to encourage more active discussion regarding the games and such. Which means, it's time to recruit more hockey fans

P.S. I'm very bitter about the Canucks.
